Trek Fuel EX 9.8

If you’re looking for a long-travel trail bike that handles like an XC bike, consider the redesigned Trek Fuel EX series. The core of the new Fuel EX 9.7, 9.8, and 9.9 is still Trek’s iconic OCLV carbon-fiber mountain frame, but the addition of Trek’s Straight Shot downtube dramatically increases frame stiffness without adding weight. The frame geometry has also been updated for a more aggressive feel. Rear-wheel travel has been increased to 130mm, and Trek’s RE:aktiv shock technology (developed with Penske Racing Shocks) brings Formula 1 tech to the trails. And thanks to the addition of the new Boost rear-axle spacing and drivetrain standard, the new Fuel EX has enough clearance to run both 29-inch and 27.5+ tires. [From $4,999; trekbikes.com]
