Sage Spectrum LT Fly Reel

The sleek large-arbor Sage Spectrum LT has the look and feel of something from another planet, but, I found out this season, it also has real-world fighting power. Machined from lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum, the six-weight model I tested handled hefty rainbows in Montana’s Blackfoot River and hard-fighting smallmouths in the Boundary Waters equally well—in large part thanks to its 20-point precision drag system. I’ve never been particularly picky about reels, placing greater importance on rod choice, but the Spectrum LT made me question where my priorities lie. ($349, sageflyfish.com)
