The CamelBak Relay Water Filtration Pitcher is one of the best filtration pitchers you can buy, thanks to a design that pays attention to the details. In our tests, the top didn't fall off when we tried to pour it because of the spill-proof locking lid that snaps shut on two sides. Plus, it filtered water as fast as the faucet dished it out. (The company claims it’s about ten times faster than other pitchers on the market) And, as an added bonus, when you go to pour water from the Relay, it filters a second time through the plant-based, activated carbon filter (which retails for $12 each). The filter is pleated, which allows for a larger filtration area, and lasts for about four months. The impressive speed almost made us forget how much time we spent waiting on, and refilling, our old Brita that also leaked carbon bits into our water.
Sure, the pitcher worked great in-house, but we took things outside, too. While we normally have an individual filtering water bottle for the trail, we filled the pitcher from a clear stream, Trout Creek, on a recent group camping trip right in front of our campsite in Oregon. The Relay always provided clean and safe water for our fellow campers, and we didn’t need to bring a bunch of bottles of water with us to stay hydrated.
