Black Diamond Boundary 107 Skis: Best of SIA

Metal is a great material to quiet an in-bounds ski; after all, if you're not skinning with the ski in the backcountry, weight is less critical. But to make the Boundary more amenable to cutting side-country tracks, BD gave the skis a rubber layer in the sidewall, because it's far lighter than metal. This isn't the first company to use rubber — some snowboard brands have also included it in sidewall construction. It provides both damping at lower weight, and allows edge control that feels slightly forgiving, especially on hardpack. [$TBD;]
