A Tough Universal Phone Mount for Bikes

What It Is: A heavy-duty silicone mount that attaches almost anywhere on a bike and locks down nearly any handheld device.

Why We Like It: In a word: simplicity. While we've been playing with bike computers and activity trackers, the easiest way to keep tabs on your ride or navigate is with a smartphone. The problem is that it's usually tucked in a jersey pocket, and pulling out a phone while pedaling is a dicey affair. The Handleband is an easy (and inexpensive) way of mounting the phone. It can attach almost anywhere (we successfully mounted it on the top tube, handlebars, and stem) just by wrapping a stretchy silicone band around the frame and hooking it into an aluminum base. The phone then sits on top of the mount, and the band wraps around a second time, securing your mobile device in place.

It's nerve-wracking to have your phone exposed when bombing downhill at 30 mph, but it never budged, even when bouncing over rough pavement. With the phone attached to the stem, it was simple to see our progress on Strava, look at maps, and check for incoming texts. There is even an integrated bottle opener — which we're not ashamed to admit came in handy.

Nitpick: We like the fact that the Handleband slips on and off easily, but the flipside is that we have to take it off every time we park our bike on the street for fear that a thief would find it as cool as we do.
