Do you remember the first time you watched Game of Thrones, and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, the actor who started playing Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane in season four, hit the screen? The shock! The awe! The pure size of a reigning Icelandic strongman champ, now suited up with murdery medieval motivation! It would sure suck to go toe to toe with him!
That must've been what it felt like for participants at the WOW Stronger competition in Reykjavik earlier this year, when Björnsson showed up and made their weightlifting accomplishments look like the afternoon frolics of foals in a meadow. After two guys performed a clean (one of CrossFit's foundational movements), The Mountain picked up the bar — which, if our math is right, weighed at least 405 pounds — and push-pressed it above his head. The crowd went nuts. The other competitors, probably, sulked. But this is exactly why The Mountain exists: To remind us that there's always someone bigger and stronger than you. And in this case, he's a 400-pound dude who owns a Pomeranian.
