With the Haanjo, Diamondback has set out to build a bulletproof commuter bike. If you regularly commute in bad weather or on poor road surfaces, the Haanjo ($900 at Backcountry) has you covered. We like the Haanjo as an efficient longer-distance commuter option or, equipped with racks and panniers — the waterproof Thule Pack ‘n Pedal Commuter Pannier ($120 at Competitive Cyclist) is a fine choice — for running errands around town. The lightweight aluminum frame has slacker angles than your typical road bike, which means a more upright and relaxed riding position. If you’re carrying a backpack, you’ll appreciate this feature.
This flat-bar road bike comes equipped with Tektro disc brakes and 40c Kenda tires. A Shimano 2x9 drivetrain gives the Haanjo more range than your single-speed or three-speed town bike. Rack and fender mounts make the bike cargo-ready, if you’d rather not carry your gear on your back.
