Beware of Burnout

Larsen is always looking to peak at the right time, and sometimes that means knowing when to back off. “Burnout is as dangerous as being too weak,” he explains. “In 2010, I did the South Pole, North Pole, and Mt. Everest, all in one year. Basically, the first six months of the year, I was full on, with four of those months being expedition travel. Right around the end of June, I had no energy. My whole body was lactic acid, when I should have been feeling awesome. I had over trained. I ended up having to take three weeks off when I should have been peaking.”
