Rule Four: Don't Be A Dick
Spend enough time in a gym, and you’ll hear someone crack a joke at the expense of the chubby girl on the treadmill. When you hear this joke, call it out. Here’s the thing: We’re all at the gym to get fitter. And making a joke about someone doesn’t make you fitter, it just makes you an asshole.
Salter has a rule that his gym is a negativity-free zone. That means you can’t be negative about your body or anyone else’s. You can’t be negative about the workout or the people doing it alongside you. And really, if you can’t make it through an hour without unleashing some negative remark, maybe you need to spend less time at the gym and more time doing some serious self-reflection.
