It's a cheap move, but you actually can blame that spare tire on the sunshine — or the lack thereof. Winter darkness can lead to weight gain in many ways. People are less motivated to run around in the dark, and reduced light can leave us feeling groggy or depressed. If you feel that dark days cause you serious distress, consult with a medical professional to see if they can help. But if the darkness only deters your evening run because of low visibility, find yourself a good headlamp and get back out there.
