Exercise linked to a rise in sperm count.
Men who exercise are likely to have a higher sperm count – while those who watch lots of TV have less. A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine followed the exercise and television habits of about 200 young men (ages 18-22) for three months. Researchers found that the participants who exercised for more than 15 hours a week had a 73 percent higher sperm count than those who spent fewer than five hours a week at the gym. The men who watched more than 20 hours of television had a 44 percent lower sperm count. "This is a fairly small study, and there are many factors involved in successful fertility," says Dr. Gregory Bernstein, a urologist in Alexandria, Virginia. "Still, you may want to consider watching television while you are on the elliptical or treadmill."
