James Harrison: Confessions of an NFL Hitman

“I should have another ring,” he says, apropos of nothing as we drive back from lunch one scorching afternoon, the sun still a demon at 4 pm. “We were the best team in football in 2004, but the Patriots, who we beat during the regular season, stole our signals and picked up 90 percent of our blitzes” in the AFC title game. “They got busted for it later, but, hey, they’re Goodell’s boys, so he slapped ’em $500,000 and burned the tapes. Was he going to rescind their Super Bowls? — man, hell no!”

He’s just getting started on the Pats. “I hate those motherfuckers,” he says, “especially those two clowns who talked about me after the fines.” He’s referring to Rodney Harrison, the ex-Patriot turned analyst on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, and Tedy Bruschi, another former Pat who appears on ESPN. “Sayin’ I’m dirty — shit, Harrison was the dirtiest player ever, a steroid cheater who was known by the whole world to be a headhunter and late hitter. And Bruschi’s an idiot, straight-up simple. I’d like to meet them both in a dark alley.”

When Harrison gets going on one of these runs, there’s no telling where he’ll end up. He can be biting (and baiting) on a wide range of subjects: Ask him, at your peril, his views on gay marriage, which make Glenn Beck sound squishy; his position on spanking (he’s for it, and how; his two young sons should try handing down fines); and if you ever get him going on gun control, better whip out your Kevlar notepad. (Harrison says the answer to campus shootings is to arm all the teachers and students.) But then, without prompting, he’ll turn on a dime and offer a sober plank on player safety, saying the league should trim the season to 14 games, begin off-season training activities in May, not March, and cut training camp down to just a couple of weeks of one-a-day practices, not two. That way, he says, “we’re not bangin’ heads so much in August; that’s where the brain trauma comes from.”

There is less than no chance of any of this happening; the league is determined to add games, not cut them, and the union hasn’t pushed to end two-a-days, though if it listened to its members, it would. Fewer hits to the head in camp would constitute major harm reduction, according to a recent study of college players by the National Institutes of Health; it found that a majority of concussions occurred during practice, not in actual games.

Harrison, for all his bluster, isn’t heedless of the facts or the effect of all those hits on his long-range health. “When you hit a dude hard, you feel it, too, and the Steelers go at play-to-die speeds. But if, God forbid, I wind up having brain damage, so be it. That’s something I’ll have to deal with down the road.”

He has three years left on his handsome contract, and if he’s lucky enough, he says, to finish that out, he’ll quit and turn to his new passion: real estate. With his partner, a veteran developer named Tom Janidas, he’s building off-campus housing at two colleges in West Virginia, and has already put together an impressive portfolio, with many more units to come. “There’s no ceiling for James in the real estate business; he’s as shrewd and focused an athlete as I’ve met,” says Janidas, who made a sizable fortune building malls and surgical centers. “I couldn’t have cared less about his fame. I only take quick studies, and he’s that.” Harrison talks avidly about future projects and amassing his own major fortune, then buying a jet to show his sons the world, taking them “wherever they have running water.”

He lives with the boys’ mother, a lawyer named Beth Tibbot, though they have no plans to marry. In 2008 he was arrested for domestic assault after a fight over their oldest son’s baptism. (She opposed it, but Harrison insisted. He wanted his sons, he says, “to know God.”) He broke down the door Tibbot had locked herself behind, shattered the phone she’d used to call the cops, and hit her in the face with an open hand. Harrison, to his credit, quickly copped to what he did, and the charges went away after he took anger-management classes, the success of which you can judge for yourself.

Because it remains an open question for him: Can he catalyze the rage he plays the game with, hitting high and hard but within the rules, while preventing it from leaking into his life? One morning, driving back home in his giant SUV, he got going on the long list of players who piss him off, including Houston’s Brian Cushing, suspended last season for doping: “That boy is juiced out of his mind.” Then he  laid down fire on some of his friends in black-and-gold, calling Pittsburgh running back Rashard Mendenall a “fumble machine” for getting stripped by Matthews in the Super Bowl, a late-game flub that stopped the Steelers cold on their drive for a go-ahead score, and groaning about Roethlisberger’s fecklessness, including two bonehead interceptions that day. “Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.”

There’s more of this stuff. His near-punchout of Bruce Arians, the Steelers’ offensive coordinator, during an altercation in practice; and his ambiguous take on Troy Polamalu, Pittsburgh’s sanctified safety: “He’s the one guy in football I respect absolutely, ’cause he’s spiritual and lives it like he talks it. You know, he gets more flags than anyone on our team but never gets fined for nothin’. He’s so polite and talks so softly that he could tell Goodell to kiss his ass, and Goodell would smile and say thank you.”

But for now, at least, Harrison’s probably said enough. He doesn’t need invective to make his point that he plays a savage game and that any attempts to childproof the sport will be met with fierce resistance. The players are so big now, so fast and so fit, that no fines, however stiff, or threats of suspension can keep them from hurting one another. At some point in the future, the keepers of the kingdom will have a decision to make: either drastically rewrite the sport’s DNA (outlaw tackling above the waist, say, and impose weight limits) or watch it die in flames like ancient Rome. For now, though, these men are our gladiators, and horrified or not, we throng the coliseums, hoisting two thumbs merrily in the air.

Black and Gold Nation, you’re forgetting one important fact when discussing the linebacker play of Harrison: he’s almost always double teamed – tackle and end or even tackle and puling guard/center depending on the opposing team’s strength. The holding, notwithstanding, never stops him from getting close to the QB or dropping back to the middle of the field for the slot/TE for a humongous hit. Unheard of in this day and age… He’s a powerful, perfectly leveraged, pass rusher who can fight the double team to play the run or cut somebody’s head off who decides to come into his domain. Since when is it ok for a slot to run possession plays over the middle? That’s why he’s pissed and somewhat delusional. He makes unbelievable, intimidating plays in the middle for an outside linebacker and receives unnecessary penalties and fines for protecting the middle. F Brady and his pin point 3 yd passes as the NFL dictatorship is governing his success. Give me a 10-7 win w/ a ton of spectacular hits offensively especially defensively and that’s football. Not this BS dink and dunk protected by a non-football guy. Harrison is frustrated, labled unfairly by the “boss”, so it’s his time to take shots while these billionaires lock out the players for what’s been a disgrace (contract wise) for NFL football players. Don’t care for the teammate shots but wtf he was probably hopped up on pain pills 3 wks. removed serious spinal surgery. Besides, he was right on much of what he said!

The steelers are too rough for the nfl it seems. they make rules because of how tough the steelers play the game. from mel blount to hines ward the black and gold have the toughest players in the league. Harrison is our guy and he has a huge bulls eye on his back. the refs flag him for nothing but rarely call holding on the o-line when he is being fouled.

Yet, the funny thing is, he’s so unblockable, but in the three years Joe Thomas has been a left tackle in the NFL, Harrison has been single-blocked by Thomas and has made very little impact rushing the passer.

Maybe Harrison isn’t ‘unblockable’ like he’d like you to think. The Browns don’t have much, but if Harrison is all that, then Thomas must be on his way to being one of the all-time great Offensive linemen.

Always give credit where credit is due: JT is an excelent tackle on a very you know what team! He’s a bright spot and much noted… however, if you look at the tape and understand football, you’ll realize that Harrison has beaten JT many times to include multiple sacks and almost killing your rookie, never going to amount to anything because you’re “the brownies” QB. Oh, not to mention the fact that you guys pick up our “has beens” I probably would shut up know my role as a brownie fan and maybe throw more torpedo’s from the cheap seats so you just might kill somebody. At least Philly Fan throws batteries for a reason to include history, tradition, and mostly a winning franchise. Wtf are you guys throwing anything at the field it’s kind of like your buddy who throws his pitching wedge into the drink after a shot he was more likely to make yet he believes he’s better than that. Browns suck, always will, enjoy the next multiple losing seasons and don’t throw the pitching wedge into the drink: you’re born to suck!

Hell it’s probably a wig of some sort either way that’s not my idea of a “football player”. I love all of this debate about other players supposedly better than Harrison, namely,Urlacher and Matthews. The argument is silly as the backers in the steelers scheme are the best at what they do. Urlacher would be lost as you have to be a selfless player to play in our scheme which is why the’ve had so much success w/ the Lebeau system. Tough, smart, hard nosed backers w/ speed. The Steelers ran into a buzz saw in the Super Bowl just like everybody who played the red hot packers did. Oh well, they have more rings than anybody else, have the best tradition, largest player base in the HOF, and you can go anywhere in the country and drink Iron City Beer and watch the “stillers.” No other team can say that. They compete every single year don’t lose to the browns the way the pats were embarrassed last yr, and own the Ravens who’s supposedly the best defense in the league. I’ll end w/ the cheating the “hoody” did vs. the steelers and probably every game he’s ever coached against them is unprecedented. The punishment didn’t fit the crime. A ring or rings should have been taken and the hoody should be unemployed.

you know nothing about football Reply:

Matthews and ware better linebackers than harrison? LOL. MAYBE at pass rushing. Maybe. But as all around linebackers? Hell no. When either of those 2 can record double digit sacks, over 100 tackles which doesn’t happens very often by outside linebackers (harrison has done it 2 times in his career and come up just short of 100 with 98 in 07. The most ware has had is 84 and Matthews has only broken into the 60s), and force 5-7 fumbles every year THEN you could make that point. James is much better at stopping the run and is better in coverage than those 2. Outside linebacker isn’t just rushing the passer. Learn your football moron.

Oh, and do either of those 2 have a dpoy and the longest play in super bowl history under their belts? Didn’t think so……..

you would tremble if you said those words to Harrison’s face. And the fact is Harrison would never rate himself above anyone else amongst the linebacker core of the Pittsburgh Steeler. And I really doubt that Timmons, Woodley, or Farrior would rate themselves above Harrison. The way the Steelers linebacker core plays and how the Steelers Defense plays, plays to one another abilities. If one guy can’t make the play the other one will. Now you ask any of them if they’re better than another Defense, those players would be the first stand and take that title. And you tell me another defense who remotely compares to the Steelers, and ill tell you Harrison would prove you wrong. (Goodell needs to quit)

With a bum knee, you can’t run, if you can’t run you aren’t running down QBs that crap their pants when seeing James coming for them. Now a knee injury for you wouldn’t matter because you’re sitting on your tucus all day at Kinko’s…loser

    [Reply]

    Tom Reply:

Talk about an idiot???? Can’t you read between the lines or does it really need to be spelled out for you in plain english? Life threatening as in career ending. An injury to your knee is pretty much the end of your career in the NFL, and thus his meal ticket is over, and at a very young age. Of course there are guys who make it back, but if you look at how much injury turn over there is in the NFL, you’ll see that its the exception, not the norm. You have to turn out a lot of players after 1 yr to get an average career of 3.3 years and injury plays a heavy part in that stat.

And from the sounds of it, you must be a soccer player or maybe just a fantasy football fan. Football is a game of collision. To penalize players for making hits that are “too hard” is just in line with the rest of the pussification this country is going through. If you can’t take the hits, don’t play the game. Its not a mandatory job last time I checked.

As well as John Elway, and so many others who came back agter ACL tears. How about Joe Montana having spinal surgery and coming back. Harrison is a thug just like Hines Ward. The Steelers were a great team, now they are a bunch of thugs who cheat any chance they get.

    Thomas Reply:

James Harrison is a good player. I’m not a fan of him because I don’t really like his attitude, at all, but let’s not deny the fact that he’s good at what he does. With that said, a knee injury to him IS indeed a major threat to his career and his pocketbook. He’s paid to overpower the O-line and take out the QB. If he can’t do that, he’s out of luck.

As far as coming back into the game after an injury like John Elway or Joe Montana did? Wait, what? Are you serious? First off, Harrison is good, but there’s no way in the world he’s as vital to his team as Elway or Montana were to theirs. No way in hell. If we were talking Polamalu, I’d be more inclined to listen just because last season’s stats seem to show that when Polamalu is out, the Steelers don’t do as well. Besides, you could replace Harrison with a second stringer with the Steelers and expect to win games. Replace Elway or Montana with the back up guy and see what happens. Unless his name is Warner or Brady….you should see where I’m going with this. Montana and Elway came back and were given their job because they were vital to winning. The same isn’t true for Harrison. Period.

As for the Steelers being cheating thugs (I won’t even talk about spygate because I acknowledge that I’m a bitter Rams fan), I disagree. Say what you want about Rothlesberger, Ward, or Harrison off the field. I’ll probably agree with you; they’re definitely of questionable character. However, Harrison’s hits last season WERE legal. Was the NFL right to say that players need to be more careful, absolutely. But to punish Harrison after the fact for giving a legal hit is questionable at best.

YES, too bad nothing he does on the field will make him not be an awful representation of everything that he is player, person, etc. Pure Ignorance and a blatent lack of anything that resembles class! I would love for him to quit or be banned from the NFL for being a complete and utter embarrassment

So what does that tell you? THE PATS DID STEAL TEAMS SIGNALS, THAT’S WHAT!!! “My rep is James Harrison, mean son of a bitch who loves hitting the hell out of people,” he says. “But up until last year, there was no word of me being dirty — till Roger Goodell, who’s a crook and a puppet, said I was the dirtiest player in the league. If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn’t do it. I hate him and will never respect him.”
    On high and low hits:
“I get dinged about three times a year and don’t know where I am for a little minute. But unless I’m asleep, you’re not getting me out of the game, and most guys feel the same way. If a guy has a choice of hitting me high or low, hit me in the head and I’ll pay your fine. Just don’t hit me in the knee, ‘cause that’s life-threatening. How’m I going to feed my family if I can’t run?”
    On the 2004 season:
“I should have another ring. We were the best team in football in 2004, but the Patriots, who we beat during the regular season, stole our signals and picked up 90 percent of our blitzes [in the AFC title game]. They got busted for it later, but, hey, they’re Goodell’s boys, so he slapped ‘em $500,000 and burned the tapes. Was he going to rescind their Super Bowls? Man, hell no!”
On the two interceptions thrown by Ben Roethlisberger in last year’s Super Bowl:
“Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.”
    On Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu:
“He’s the one guy in football I respect absolutely, ‘cause he’s spiritual and lives it like he talks it. You know, he gets more flags than anyone on our team but never gets fined for nothin’. He’s so polite and talks so softly that he could tell he could tell Goodell to kiss his ass, and Goodell would smile and say thank you.”

I just think about players like Jack Lambert who was feared and respected by a majority of his peers. He was a beast at 6’4′ 220 and as fierce a tackler as anyone. He blasted RB’s head on who were in good position to defend and brace for his impact. He respected the game and the opportunity it afforded him. I don’t get the same feeling with this jack ass.

It’s funny how Patriot fans get their panties in a bunch when SPYGATE is brought up. If videotaping is “no big deal”, why is it against the rules and why haven’t the Patsies won a SB since? You can talk about how they have beaten the Steelers since then but they added Randy Moss and Tom Brady is alot better now then he was in 2004 but they still haven’t won any more Super Bowls. If it really was “no big deal”, why burn the tapes? Let the fans see the evidence and decide if they gained an unfair advantage. Fact: Patriots CHEATED and won Super Bowls. FACT: Patriots had a much better team and were undefeated but LOST when they weren’t cheating. FACT: Patriots have not won a SB since they stopped videotaping. When the Patriots win a SB without cheating then I will give them some credit. Until then, Seelers are the TRUE DYNASTY!

I tried it, but I didn’t think it helped us.” Johnson also said, “Bill Belichick was wrong because he videotaped signals after a memo was sent out to all of the teams saying not to do it. But what irritates me is hearing some reactions from players and coaches. These players don’t know what their coaches are doing. And some of the coaches have selective amnesia because I know for a fact there were various teams doing this. That’s why the memo was sent to everybody. That doesn’t make [Belichick] right, but a lot of teams are doing this.”[24]

The problem is that if they’re not on the press box side you can’t do it from the press box, you have to do it from the sideline. This was 18 years ago.

Q: You think the NFL came down too hard on them?

JJ: No, no, I said it on the show. He was wrong for doing it for the simple reason that the league knew this was going on not just in New England but around the league. And the league sent out the memorandum to all of the teams saying you cannot do this. And so that’s when Bill Belichick was wrong. After he got the memorandum saying don’t do it any more, he did it.

JJ: Oh yeah, I did it with video and so did a lot of other teams in the league. Just to make sure that you could study it and take your time, because you’re going to play the other team the second time around. But a lot of coaches did it, this was commonplace.

Q: But did you do it by taping the signal caller?

    JJ: Yeah.

    Q: Oh you did.

JJ: That’s what I’m saying. I was saying one of Marty Schottenheimer’s scouts, Mark Hatley, who has passed away now, Mark told me that’s how they did it, and Howard Mudd their offensive line coach with Kansas City, who now coaches for Tony Dungy, he was the best in the entire league at stealing signals.

Q: Where’d you put your guy who was videotaping? Where was he?

JJ: My guy was up with my camera crew in the press box. So you’d just put an extra camera up with your camera crew in the press box who zoomed in on the signal callers. That’s the best way to do it, but anyway you can’t always do that because the press box camera crew might be on the same side as the opposing team. If they’re on the same side as the opposing team that’s when you need to do it from the sideline.

First off comparing Harrison to Brady is like comparing a man to a little purse dog. Harrison has never cried about his draft postion, I am pretty sure he was undrafted. As for him being dirty, well Rodney Harrison is a cheap shot artist, always launching himself at people’s heads and narry a word while he was the Cheatriots.

Ed Reed, is one of the most overrated players in the league. I’d take Sanders from Indy over him, and he is injured 8 of 16 games a year. Polamalu at 50% is better than Reed at 100% (maybe a little exaggeration there, but you get the point). Want to neutralize Reed run right at him and look him off. Neutralize Polamalu, hold him, clip him, and pull his hair, other than that, if he is healthy forget it.

As for Boston sports being better than Pittsburgh, maybe this year in hockey, and in baseball, always but who cares that is a nancy sport anyway. Hockey, eh. With the injuries we had late in the year and worthless as Fleury that was inevitable.

Football is about sound mechanics and strategy as much as demoralizing and punishing the other team. Harrison does that with big, hard hits. The hypocritcal NFL fines him then makes a greatest hits DVD. Never mind the fact that they go way over the top in protecting certain QBs.

There is no common sense in that league anymore, and honestly I am getting sick of the NFL and Goodell.

Football is a game of passion, you aint suppose to like the other team, much like boxing, if you are going to go in there and whoop someone’s ass, you can’t like them, maybe after the game but game time is war in the NFL. I said it years ago, the are taking the toughness out of the game and that is not what football is based on.

When the rest of the article comes out, you will see that Harrison’s words were misconstrued about his teammates, typical media bullshit turning words so that more people will tune in in disbelief.

Personally, I think Harrison is the best D player in the game right now. Yes he is an angry man with a chip on his shoulder, but 80% of all NFL players are like this and you have to be to survive. THe current commish does not understand this and is trying to make the NFL a gentlemans sport, which it is not. Tennis/Golf/Polo those are gentleman sports, football is a war, players are gladiators. As a defender, you want to inflict pain on the other team, this is how you win and how the Steelers have become the best NFL franchise of all time.

In the early days the Steelers did not play wiht this attitude, then by the time I came along we started to play with this attitude and the rings speak for themselves.

For all you Harrison haters, if you were able to spend time with him off the field, you would not even think he was a football player and would never label him as a thug. If you have never met him personally and don’t know him personally, you should not judge based on some interview by a journalist’s whose job is to get you to read a story. By thinking the way you have, you have just been played by the media.

Yes, they were awesome in 70′s (some 50 years after the team was founded) were mediocre in the 80′s, had a couple decent years in the 90′s, and a handful of division championships since 2000 (in a division with only one other competitive team).

The Steelers are the Lakers of the NFL. An overrated team with 90% bandwagon fans who think waving a rag will make up for the fact they they know shit about football.

Not a die hard Steeler fan…but overrated? The Lakers of the NFL?
I hate to pull the championship card, but they do have the most rings. And until someone has more, just keep your ignorant face shut.

Whoever your team is, they havent won as much as the Pittsburgh Steelers…thats the bottom line…its not an opinion, and it cant be debated. Any comeback you have to that, is idiotic.

I agree, the Steelers have a lot of bandwagon fans, and they travel well. But they also have won the most, and yes jerkoff, winning is the name of the game. Not the division, not the conferece, but Super Bowls.

And I agree with your last line, waving terrible towels does show that they know shit about good football.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the Pats are rebuilding . . . have been since 2008.
They had a seriously inexperienced defense and weren’t expected to make the playoffs . . . they went 14-2 in a rebuilding year, then got beat by a strong experienced Jets team.

Sorry to say that as a Cowboys fan I see them re-tooling for another run of success before Tom Brady retires.
I only wish the Cowboys in the 90′s had retooled and never fired JJ. They coulda gotten a few more and challenged PITT as best NFL team all time.

Get used to seeing NE at the top of the bunch . . . they are here to stay as a class organization.

Ok, all the Harrison haters answer this. Harrison got fined for his hit on Jason Campbell in the Raiders game. He was penalized, but not fined for his hit on Fitzpatrick. How were either one of these tackles outside of the rules that were put in place after the Browns game? Both were perfect form tackles. You hate JH-fine. But don’t let your predjudices cloud your eyes. Mr. Harrison-my family and I love ya. You sir, are a GOD in this house.

  82. Salty D Says:

man a lot of you people are ridiculous for defending Harrison. Not because its wrong to do so, but you’re logic is based on dumbfounded misogyny. Nobody likes to lose but real men suck it up and blame themselves instead of blaming their own teammates. As for Goodell, I understand his hate but he needs to redirect that hate to a different outlet like on the field. He gets nothing good out of hating Goodell and only hurts himself. He may not care, but he’s dumb for not caring cause it creates leverage for everyone else to completely erase him from NFL existence. People don’t seem to realize that even though Harrison is plays for a great defense and has the duty of knocking other people out, he’s the only one crying about last season during this lockout right now. Now I don’t read Mens Journal and I’m sure the media skewed the interview (and I know Harrison is retarded when it comes to interviews) it still doesn’t make Harrison “brave” for being dumb – Rashard fumbling a lot? ignorant. Big Ben throwing interceptions? true but they happen, cry about it, Big Ben sucked it up at least and I’m not a fan of him. Harrison meanwhile should’ve created pressure on the Packers offense, one sack doesn’t cut it compared to multiple almost-sacks. maybe then he would’ve forced an interception or a fumble

Also Im not a fan of Tom Brady and I respect James Harrison’s impact for his team, but while some Steeler fans here pointed out other people just have lombardi trophy envy, maybe you guys need to stop obsessing over TV sports and go outside and play it for reals. At the very least bring your manhood to the next level by spankin it to Brady’s wife instead of James Harrison’s magazine pictures

Clay Matthews On James Harrison Last Year in USA Today.

You can tell he plays with a chip on his shoulder,” Matthews says of Harrison. “I think being an undrafted free agent and now with the success he’s had — all-pro, Pro Bowler — you (can) go down the list. He’s a tremendous athlete, and he presents a number of problems for opposing offenses and offensive talents.

“The fact that I can even be in the same conversation with guys like that is a great compliment.”

This is the difference between a jerk (Harrison), and someone with some humility (Matthews).

I admire James Harrison for coming out with how he feels. He’s not trying to be politically correct. He’s trying to stir the fire, make a change. God knows foodball is becoming more “Flag,” football than “TACKLE” football. In football’s glory days a guy would get injured out of a game and another would come in to be the hero. That was football. That doesn’t happen very often. It amazing how the Packers won the Super Bowl by the way, all those people on IR. Eventhough I am not a fan.
Ever since this story came out you hear people saying that’s not right or, what was he thinking. Maybe about the teammate drama ok, I understand. Remember the 2011 draft? NFL Players locked out, Roger Goodell comes to the podium to start the draft and fans boo him. I think the Players would probably boo him too at this point. 4 months of a lockout?
How do we get former Comish Paul Tagliabue back?
Overall Harrison is just saying what he thinks and it isn’t a crime. Especially, during a lockout. People may not like it but, hey it just might be the truth. Are we that naive to think it isn’t?? If it was Troy Palamalu, would anyone bat an eyelash?
I am a Raiders fan and we would love to have him on our team. He is a hard nosed player and has established himself as someone to be reckoned with.

“And what of Jack Splat? We mythologize Lambert, a solid man off the field, no doubt. But why is he a legend? Because he wore a t-shirt under his pads that warned, “I am a F****** Maniac.” Because he snarled like an animal and said despicable things about opponents’ wives and mothers. We love him because he was so intoxicatingly terrifying, so primal and real. He, like Harrison, was honest about his brutality.”

The author sounds like JH’s biggest fan. James Harrison can do everything?! Sure. Yes, he can rush the passer (that’s what he’s supposed to do). He can stop the run, of course it doesn’t hurt that he plays with other great linebackers.

Can he really cover? No. He can’t cover a tight end. Can he lead? No. This article is proof that Harrison is still a child, and a huge distraction to his team.

Harrison is not even going to crack the top 20 all time linebackers, as good as he is.
