Earth, the HD movie version of the innovative Planet Earth mini-series, opens in theaters April 22.
By Michael Slenske
Opening in theaters April 22nd (Earth Day), the simply titled Earth revisits much of the terrain from the Planet Earth documentary’s 11 episodes - from atmospheric aerials of an Arctic caribou migration to close-ups of humpbacks in the South Pacific - but the expansiveness of the big screen (and James Earl Jone’s booming narration) adds depth and dimension. Thanks to a high-def camera shooting 1,000 frames per second, a new scene of a cheetah chasing down a gazelle in Africa becomes a slow dance, with every sinew and stumble magnified to stunning effect.
