Who needs the World Cup when your favorite NBA stars are kicking the ball around for a good cause?

Ever wonder how NBA players would fare on a soccer field? This Wednesday, June 23, you can find out. MJ columnist Steve Nash’s third annual “Showdown in Chinatown” will feature some of the league’s finest using their feet instead of their hands in a charity futbol match in New York City. The lineup includes professional ballers Brandon Jennings and Tony Parker, plus Nash and former U.S. soccer player Claudio Reyna.
The game, taking place at Sara D. Roosevelt Park (located at Chrystie & Houston Streets), starts at 6PM and is free to the public. Past Showdowns have drawn upwards of a thousand people to watch Nash and friends compete.
If you’re interested in more than just rubbernecking, for $5,000 you can dine with and pick the mind of the Phoenix Suns superstar at a small, intimate brunch. Or, for a more reasonable $500 price tag, consider capping the day with the “Evening of Showdown,” an auction and after-party where you’ll have a chance to mingle with the game’s players.
Proceeds go to the Steve Nash and Claudio Reyna Foundations. For more information on the event and Nash’s charitable organization, go to http://stevenash.org/showdown.
