Iowa State vs. Texas, Saturday 7:15 PM
With LSU having already moved on from Les Miles, and trouble brewing in Austin, South Bend, Happy Valley, and USC, this coming off-season figures to be one of wholesale changes at a number of the game's historic powers. Of all the hot-seat coaches worth rooting for, UT's Charlie Strong is probably first on the list — a genuine good guy, and a fine coach who inherited a threadbare program and needs probably two more years to fully institute his culture change. He's probably not going to get it. The Longhorns' thrilling season opening win against Notre Dame has become gradually less thrilling as it has become clear that beating Notre Dame is the sort of thing that's done every week. Since beating UTEP in week 2, they've lost three straight and failed to keep opponents under 45 points. The boosters are going batshit, and the likelihood that they back the Brinks truck up and hire Tom Herman away from Houston feels well nigh inevitable. Strong's only chance may be winning out, and hanging half a hundred on a terrible Cyclones team is as good a place to start as any.
