Saturday 3:30 PM: #11 Florida vs. Arkansas
We've spoken very little about Florida to date in this column. By way of addressing any suspicion of internal bias, let me simply state that the reason for this is that I don't like the Gators and kept hoping they'd go away. However, they are 6-1, ranked 11th, and theoretically in a position to contend for the playoffs, so it's time to do a little diligence. Jim McElwain's team has benefited from a remarkably easy schedule by SEC standards, catching Missouri and Georgia in down years and escaping a meeting with LSU after Hurricane Matthew made the game unplayable. In their one serious test they lost by 10 at Tennessee, who are themselves not very good. So, no, I am not a believer. That doesn't mean they won't win at Arkansas against a puzzling Razorbacks team last seen losing to Auburn 56-3. Here's guessing it's the other Arkansas team that shows up — the one with wins against TCU and Ole Miss — and that Florida's delusions of grandeur are abruptly halted.
