Pulphead by John Jeremiah Sullivan
Hopefully Luck will be mixing his selections up, some novels here, a little bit of nonfiction there. If he is, John Jeremiah Sullivan's collection of essays is a pretty damn fine place to start. The son of a sportswriter, Sullivan spins new, weird Americana into literary gold in a way very few essayists before or since have been able to touch. This is one of the rare essay collections that you pick up and can't easily put down.
