Form fitted
I have many of the Helly Hansen products and love their quality. This jacket certainly seemed to have the same quality, but the Large was too tight in the chest for me (I have 42" chest). As the sleeves and neck were perfect (5'10"), I did not want to try the XL and so just returned the jacket (very easily). I would recommend this jacket for those with a slimmer frame.

When I think soft shell I think layering. You already have on your t-shirt, long sleeve shirt or light sweater, & to take the edge off the nip in the air you through on your soft shell. At 5'8" & decent athletic build, the size I normally wear in a jackets is medium, but in The Rapide I ended up in a size large. While I loved everything else about the this soft shell the fit is totally off. When I tried on the M size w/ just a t-shirt on, it was already quite snug, but when I added the sweater it went from extreme "Athletic Cut" to ridiculously skinny "Emo Fit"! It felt like I was wearing a "Ace Bandage" across my chest! Not the look or fit I was aiming for.

This is a nice jacket, but there is no description of its fit on the description page. I am 5'10" and normal build, which puts me in a Large for almost all jackets. This Rapid jacket is more than even an "athletic fit" as it is very tight on the body. Other Helly Hansen outerwear fits me in size large...but this one it extremely slim fitting. Some type of sizing description would have saved me the cost of shipping back to Altrec. Otherwise, quick turnaround and shipping!

Doesn't Fit!
I'm 5'11" and a powerlifter so I have a fairly large chest and arms. I ordered the medium and as expected its quite snug around the chest and arms. HOWEVER the length it terrible! It goes down to the crotch of my pants! and the sleeves go down to my second knuckles. If you've got a beer gut and not much chest and really long arms go for it, otherwise don't.
