Providing optimal ventilation without sacrificing comfort or support, the newly redesigned Osprey Atmos 50 Backpack carries your load closer to your back so you can log the miles like never before. This lightweight pack design certainly isn't the lightest on the market, but it the most comfortable and superbly detailed. Built with gender specific BioStretch Harness and Hipbelt for a secure fit and the AirSpeed Suspension system, the Atmos 50 can comfortably carry a load of up to 40lbs, making it ideal for active adventures, thru-hiking and superlight backpacking trips. Plenty of pockets keep you organized and dual hipbelt zippered pockets keep must-haves at your finger tips.
The Best Weekend Pack for Backpacking and Travel
I've had this pack for well over a year and it has been the best purchase I've ever made for a weekend pack. I've used this for so many trips where I fly for a business trip, pleasure, or backpacking, and I can fit everything I need for the weekend: dress shoes, jeans, pants, sweaters, several t-shirts, and even my 15" laptop (although it does get tight, but I can still fit so much in the bag). The external dual pockets are very large and I can fill just one with power-cords, headphones, electric razor, paperback books, socks, sunglasses in a case, etc.). And the stretchy front pocket is perfect for fitting a lightweight rain jacket (i.e. Patagonia Torrentshell). Also, don't forget the nice feature of having pockets on the hipbelt to put your iPhon, camera, iPhone, or anything else you might need quickly. And finally, the most important part about this pack is that it's extremely light for its size and carrying capacity, and it truly feels so comfortable. I tend to have a bad back and not once have I ever had any pains carry this pack with over 30 lbs in it. The shoulder harness has a great amount of cushion and the octo holes in it and the hip belt keeps you from sweeting too bad (trust me it's not a problem in the winter, I've used it up in Chicago from Jan-Mar and I've never got cold from the feature)!
Durable, lightweight.
So far, this is my lightest backpack. Just started hiking again after 15 years and I found my old aluminium frame backpack. You can't even compare them! The fabric seemed stronger on the old one but after a search I realized it's the same strong but definitely much lighter! The design of the whole gear is excellent. I recommend this product.
Very light, capable and versatile mid-size pack
I"ve only used it so far for long day hikes, and only with a bit over 30 lbs in it, but I'm impressed with how much more comfortable it is compared to my Osprey 33 and all my older internal and external frame packs with the same load on the same trails. The number, design and locations of the many quick-access pockets are very welcome features. At least four are accessible with the pack on your back. The "tuneability" of the various suspension and compression straps helps a lot with keeping the load fixed in the pack and getting the pack well-fitted to the user. I'm 5'10" and I"m using the medium size comfortably -- very little weight riding on my shoulders. This is the first of the vented back pad packs I've owned that actually keeps my back mostly dry. The fabric of the pack is very thin and light and looks like it may not hold up well to rough usage, but the Osprey 33 I mentioned above appears to have the same fabric and with three hard years of use on it looks new.
Great pack
I specifically got this Osprey pack for the airflow. Only a mesh screen rests on your back with the rest of the pack well off your back. I plan to use it for a bike camping trip and it is low enough to not interfere with a bike helmet.
