A great pack.
I'm very happy with this pack...adjusted easily to fit me, and is comfortable when hiking. Also there are many handy storage pockets. It's great!
Great Pack
The pack was everything I was wanting in a day pack. All the bells and whistles with zero problems with durability. It was also very easy to load, lift and carry. My old bag used to make the hiking more difficult or at least I would get more of a workout from the pack then the hike. No more. Great pack for the price.
Amazingly comfortable and well designed daypack
For years I've been looking for a worthy update for my decades old Wilderness Experience klettersack, a clean no frills versatile daypack, and finally found it in the Kestrel 28. The more I use it, the more I like it. The highly adjustable waist belt/shoulder strap suspension system is the most comfortable I've ever used. You can easily carry the bulk of the load on your hips, and also get decent ventilation for your back. The trekking pole feature is a nice, simply designed extra, as are the tie-off daisies, and rain cover. The variable sizing and adjustable distance from shoulder to waist was key for me, TNF and Lowe packs I've used ride too high on my waist. I initially thought the sternum strap was too short, until I realized it is designed to pull the specially curved shoulder straps in to sit on your collar bone instead of on the shoulder joint. After years of using old style shoulder straps, this is pure heaven. In a similar vein, I also initially thought the lid cinch straps were too long, until I realized that you can easily access the main compartment by loosening them instead of unclipping them, a nice feature. A minor complaint is that the side pockets are just usable for Nalgene water bottles, but could be deeper. This is not an issue if you use a water bladder. Also, since there is no secondary access to the main compartment, you need to be a bit organized when packing.
an excellent day pack
This is the most comfortable day pack. The stow on the go trekking poles design is wonderful. I would buy this pack just for that feature alone. The belt pockets and rain cover are a nice features too. Altrec is one of the best on-line companies to deal with. Great communication!! Thanks. jd
