Fairchild Baldwin Bobby Travel Bag
Fairchild Baldwin, the new luggage line from design stalwarts Jill Fairchild and Karen Baldwin, makes traveling bags with modern lines and a vintage mind-set. This tackle is meant to age with you trip by trip and is as suited to a luxury safari as the red-eye is to your next conference.
Take the Bobby duffel in densely woven Italian cotton: The bag's got substantial nickel hardware and buttery leather trim that also reinforces the bottom. The twill-lined interior features a zip pocket to keep travel documents and other necessities within reach. Although there's a removable adjustable shoulder strap, we prefer carrying this duffel in the hand – all the better to appreciate its sturdy, thoughtful construction. Without the space-eating extras of a lot of luggage (built-in compartments, pull handles, 360-degree wheels, and more), Fairchild Baldwin's lightweight bag remains roomy enough to get you through the weekend and the following week (provided you pack smart).
While the bag comes in other materials (all leather, or wool and leather) and more neutral colors, the orange cotton version has the confident, clean appeal of midcentury furniture. It may lack the logo-crazy, status-conscious patterns that wrap less-secure luggage, but the Bobby is a well-made piece of equipment. [$895; FairchildBaldwin.com]
