Topo x Woolrich Klettersack
The Klettersack, a double-buckled, rectangular knapsack from Colorado-based Topo Designs, caught on immediately with bicycle commuters and outdoorsy urban types when it was released several years ago. The bag's slim profile and simple styling accented with four diamond-shaped leather patches made it perfect for the subway and the trail. It was comfortable on the back, expandable, and ready to carry a laptop. Topo's new edition of the back incorporates all of these winning traits as well as classic fabric patterns from Woolrich that offer a bit of rural dandyism.
The Topo x Woolrich Klettersack comes in charcoal-striped gray wool and buffalo plaid. The former is the better choice if you're looking to be formal, the latter if you're looking to stand out. Both colorways are accents with a bright red zipper at the top and neon blue straps on the side that serve to both highlight the old-fashioned fabric and – seemingly – to poke fun at its innate self seriousness. The wool is thick to the point of being hot, meaning this is a better late-fall bag than a summer satchel (back sweat stains are a potential problem). The bottom of the bag is reinforced and the stitching, a bit of a concern given the softer material, is strong. Despite being soft, this bag is hard. [$249; topodesigns.com]
