Honour Mark

For a multi-season jacket that will see you through the last days of spring and remain your friend come fall, the Signature Car Jacket from just-launched Honour Mark fits the bill. With its mix of British structure, Japanese twill, and top-dyed brushed cotton, it's ultra-versatile outerwear that's sporty, but elevated.

"A lot of these Japanese fabrics have never really been done at this level," says designer Sean Aharam of the materials at play in the San Francisco label's limited edition debut, whose unfussy form is surprisingly feature heavy. Details include adjustable cuffs, a two-way zipper, shoulder gussets for wider range of motion without the bulk of extra fabric, headphone opening and seven unobtrusive lined pockets.

Aharam joined company founder and CEO Mike DeNunzio last fall after a decade of designing outerwear, menswear, and youth apparel for Ralph Lauren, Target, and Gymboree. Honour Mark brought him on to help the burgeoning direct-to-consumer label attract men in their thirties and older who are looking for options that straddle the weekend fleece and the office blazer.

"I want the guy to put it on and feel really good, but I want him to also be able to put it on and not really think about it," says DeNunzio, a former private equity investor and entrepreneur. That means a lot of navy, black, and classic khaki hues that easily compliment the lion's share of a customer's existing wardrobe, and low-key pieces that can transition from ruggedly casual to business-appropriate depending on what they're paired it with.

The Car Jacket, which Aharam and DeNunzio report they’ll be road-testing on Bay Area locals over the course of the summer (what better place to test a jacket in July?), foreshadows a capsule collection slated for fall. A recent preview of what's in store included a quilted vest, motorcycle jacket, overcoat, and shirt jacket – all made with signature fabrics that can stand up to the elements. In the meantime, those in San Francisco can take advantage of the company’s same-day-delivery offer for orders placed by 1 pm. [$320; honourmark.com]
