Monitaly, designer Yuki Matsuda's California-based menswear brand, is known for high-concept, intricately made clothing (in other words, blazers in colorful prints). But that doesn't mean there aren't a few more toned-down items that could spruce up your existing wardrobe without becoming the centerpiece of every outfit. The waxed-canvas Mountain Parka, a staple of the Monitaly winter lineup, is one such item. The Wool Field Jacket is another.
Made of 100 percent melton wool, a heavyweight, wind-resistant fabric often used in naval uniforms and military outerwear – Monitaly's take on the field jacket is notable for its plentiful array of pockets and details pulled from more refined tailoring. This is a jacket that proves those details matter: The elbows are patch-reinforced for durability; the interior is lined in chambray for comfort; and the hood is backed in jacquard wool for warmth and structure. And, speaking of that hood, it's got extra eyelets on both sides of the head to allow for better peripheral vision, a feature of classic hunting jackets that comes in handy when stalking through the woods or down a busy sidewalk.
