Club Monaco Kennedy Chinos
When Club Monaco launched three new chino fits this fall, much was made of the New York City menswear personalities modeling the styles and the slim cuts. Being slightly contrarian, we were won over by the comfort of the Kennedy fit, the loosest of the new bunch.
Fittingly, Club Monaco enlisted actor-photographer Patrick Adams, who plays legal genius-hustler Mike Ross on the law firm dramedy 'Suits,' to represent this classic cut. Adams, a young actor worth watching, isn't a particularly flashy guy. He appears to wear some bench-made suits on the show, but he's better known for his clean everyday look. It makes sense that he would model pants inspired by John F.'s casual Hyannis Port style.
"I wear the Kennedy fit mostly on weekends when I'm not working," says the up-and-comer, whose landscape shots of British Columbia's Haida Gwaii coast are on display at Toronto's Oz Studios, "so that means I need a casual, comfortable piece that can go with me on errands. I wear them with a good pair of desert boots, a well-made T-shirt, and a nice belt."
JFK would likely opt for light gray or tan, pairing the pants with a Shetland crewneck and an All-American shoe like a penny loafer or a pair of canvas deck shoes, but we also like some of the more unexpected colors. Turns out that maroon goes with everything and dark blue makes pastel shirts pop. Plus, with a clean-looking button fly and flat-lying pockets, Kennedy chinos are flattering to every type of build. The durable fabric means that your pair will be slow to fray. You'll have to earn the tattered hems of a life fully lived. [$69.50; clubmonaco.com]
