The brilliance behind ThermaHelm’s design is it’s simplicity: Upon impact, the helmet triggers a chemical reaction that cool’s the rider’s head, reducing swelling. Motorcyclists with head injuries are at serious risk of death — a danger only hastened by a helmet that acts like oven insulation. ThermaHelm buys precious time in the race against blood rushing to the brain. To boot, its sleek look will help you keep your Steve McQueen-coolheadedness at all times. Buy a helmet from them, or send yours in and have it retro-fitted with the life-saving technology in a matter of days ($475; thermahelm.com).

As a field paramedic we are taught to remove the helmet to gain access to the airway for secured airway placement, rate of breathing control which is as important if not more than hypothermia in the immediate post crash and also possible aspiration control. Now if the the front of the helment is able to be removed quickly thats a plus and if the helmet is transparent so that all injuries can be noted so they can be treated this would help. Thanks Brian

Seems like an interesting piece of gear for motorcyclists.

I thought Paramedics were “not” supposed to remove the helmet because of the possiblity of neck injuries? Also, the helmet, especially a full face will mostly prevent facial, and head injuries as it it supposed too, correct? If not, I have been told wrong all these years.

Great idea but when coming then winter season the helmet do not use. If have double feature in the helmet I seems it is the very much good. If our need cool then we get from helmet or need hot then supply the helmet hot.
