It's never winter in Big Bend National Park

Unlike most national parks, Big Bend is at its most ideal in the winter months, when temperatures in this remote corner of southwest Texas hover in the mid-60s. Moreover, February marks the start of the spring flowering season, which begins along the rambling Rio Grande and proceeds upslope to the foothills of the Chisos Mountains through late April. With nearly 200 miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails — not to mention year-round canoeing through the canyons of the Rio Grande — there’s no shortage of options for visitors to get off the grid within the largest protected area in Texas.
