Lean-to Camping: Knight Island, Vermont
You can feel like you’re on your own private island camping at this state park in Vermont. First step: Reserve a permit for one of the seven lean-to’s on secluded Knight Island, a one-mile-long pastoral piece of land in Lake Champlain. (If you’re new to lean-to camping, the three-sided shelters will keep you protected from rain and wind and keep your gear dry, but, with one side open, your view of the great outdoors isn’t obscured). You can only get to this remote island by a power boat, sail boat, canoe, or kayak. The island doesn’t have any docks, so you’ll have to anchor it or beach it. Once you get settled, enjoy a little R&R by a fire pit and call it a day.
