Drive the Acadia Byway through Mount Desert Island.

Fresh lobster feasts, craggy shorelines, granite-capped mountains and landmark lighthouses make Maine's Acadia Byway one of the most iconic New England road trips. You could easily complete this 40-mile route in a few hours, but with innumerable twists and turns through Mount Desert Island (and Acadia National Park) there are plenty of reasons to stop along the way. You could cycle through an interconnected network of car-free carriage roads, swim at Echo Lake and Sand Beach, or test your fear of heights on trails that include iron rungs and ladders, such as the Beehive and Precipice (the latter may be closed portions of the summer during peregrine falcon nesting periods).
