Witness a rare eclipse in Central Oregon.

The first total solar eclipse to touch the continental U.S. since 1979 will reach the Oregon coast around 10:15 a.m. on August 21, plunging the land into darkness as the moon blocks the sun. Sections of the narrow eclipse path within central Oregon will offer some of the best weather prospects in the nation, and Oregonians are gearing up for the day with a number of major celebrations. These include a viewing party at the state fairgrounds in Salem and a Solarfest in the Deschutes River Valley at Madras. Similar events include the music-heavy Oregon Eclipse festival at Big Summit Prairie, the adventure-oriented Moonshadow Festival at Wine Down Ranch and the kid-friendly Total Eclipse of the Garden at the Oregon Garden.
