Greenwood, South Carolina

Not to be confused with Greenville, Greenwood is just over an hour’s drive south — and that much closer to the center line of the path of totality, due to get a full two minutes and 28 seconds of darkness from 2:39 p.m. The town is otherwise known for its annual flower festival, but has some up-and-coming breweries and distilleries worth checking out while you’re here for the sun and moon show.

Watch: Lake Greenwood State Park is the spot to be, with naturally terraced hills leading down to the lake that will give a stadium effect to the viewing.

Stay: You can still land a reasonable room rate at Inn on the Square in Greenwood's uptown district.
