Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Barbados

It was exactly 50 years ago this month that Barbados officially declared independence from the United Kingdom. Even if you don’t know a thing about the history of this Caribbean island, you can be sure that Mount Gay rum is already flowing down the streets of Bridgetown. Like a month-long nonstop Carnival, Barbados plans to celebrate its independence with lavish parades, food festivals, and no shortage of music. Of course, 70 miles of coral-fringed beach is never far from sight if you simply want to kick back and escape the crisp November air of your hometown. Try Folkestone Beach or Carlisle Bay for some of the best snorkeling on the island.
