Napa Valley/Sonoma Country Wine and Bike Tour, November 14-16
Calistoga, California
This weekend you can combine your love of fine wines and the open road without getting anywhere near a breathalyzer. On the Napa Valley/Sonoma Country Wine and Bike Tour, experienced guides will take you to some of Northern California’s famed vineyards while you leisurely cycle through flat, picturesque terrain. On Saturday, you’ll stay close to Calistoga, completing a 20-mile bike loop to nearby vineyards, from the small and family owned to the internationally recognized, like the Chateau Montelena. On Sunday, you venture to Healdsburg, the heart of Sonoma Country, for a 17-mile bike loop in the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. The area is lined with shady oaks and is virtually traffic free. The rest of the weekend package includes gourmet picnic lunches, spa treatment options, and B&B accommodations ($1,297 per person with Spa Treatment, $1,197 per person without; getawayadventures.com). Still looking for more to do? Hit a few balls at Napa’s Silverado Country Club or take a hike at Bothe-Napa State Park, just minutes from downtown Calistoga (caslistogavisitors.com)
Accommodations and Travel: This Getaway Adventures tour includes two nights lodging at the Silver Rose Inn and Spa, the Napa Valley’s only resort winery. The inn is easily accessible from Highways 101 and 29 (silverrose.com).
Callaway’s FT-iQ Driver and Utah’s Sand Hollow resort, November 15
St. George, Utah
This Saturday, hit the links on a new course with an even newer club. Callaway’s FT-iQ driver will work wonders on the recently opened course at Utah’s Sand Hollow resort, creating less drag on your swing for some extra yardage off the tee and a greater percentage of shots on the fairway. The new club, which is as powerful as a square-head driver, will do wonders for your game on the rugged course that is settled right in the middle of Utah’s red rock country ($500; callawaygolf.com). The John Fought-designed greens are surrounded by the natural desert landscape will keep your mind off those last couple of bogeys. Short on time? Opt for the resort’s 9-hole British-style links rather than the 18-hole Championship course. But whatever you do, don’t let the action stop on the fairway: Sand Hollow offers nine miles of trails for hiking and biking and more than 15,000 acres of perfectly sculpted dunes that are four-wheel ready ($125 for 18 holes; sandhollowresort.com).
Accommodations and Travel: The Sand Hollow Resort is located 15 miles away from St. George, Utah, just off of SR9, and adjacent to the Sand Hollow Reservoir & ATV Recreational Area. To get there, head south from the city of Hurricane, on I-15, and look for Sand Hollow Road on your right. See the official website for details on booking your stay in one of the resort’s vacation villas ($TK; sandhollowresort.com).
Fabulous Food Show, November 14-16
Cleveland, Ohio
In Cleveland this weekend, celebrity chefs Guy Fieri, Paula Deen, and Michael Symon, among others, will perform live for salivating onlookers, while a host of chefs-turned-authors will be available to sign books and impart their recipe wisdom. The show, which is one of the biggest culinary events in the mid-west, will also bring in a bit of international flair with a tasting pavilion that will feature more than 250 wines and beers from around the world. But it’s far from over after you’re done devouring dinner delicacies and drinks. End your night with a trip to the chocolate bar, where you can pick up hand-crafted cookies and cakes, or shop around in the culinary marketplace that will feature foods and cooking tools from more than 250 exhibitors ($25 per day, plus $10 for wine tastings; fabulousfoodshow.com).
