Psychonauts 2 was a sequel that took 16 years to come to fruition, but it finally came out five years ago on August 25, 2021. The game was everything fans were hoping for, proving that smaller developers can make great games without the traditional backing of big publishers.

Psychonauts is a franchise that relies on humor and untraditional gaming tropes to turn 3D platforming on its head. The first game follows a child with psychic abilities who tries to use them to solve problems and get to the bottom of mysterious conspiracies.

The use of cinematic gameplay and dialogue immerses the player into the world, but it’s not in the same way that a game like The Last of Us uses cutscenes. Instead, Psychonauts shows the gamer different things about its world and story by crafting deep characters with unique personalities.

Schafer’s history with storytelling in his games is pretty well-known. He worked on The Secret of Monkey Island, one of the best point-and-click games of the 1990s. Psychonauts uses a lot of similar characterizations and exploration, but instead lives within the platforming genre.

Psychonauts 2 was incredibly well-received by critics, scoring 87/100 for the Xbox Series X version. Games.cz talked about how the game innovated in the platforming genre.

“Psychonauts 2 managed to restore my faith in the genre of 3D platformers. This is a creative volcano spewing ideas left and right – it can make you laugh, it can make you cry, it can make you think. And it will definitely make you have fun.”

Now that Double Fine Productions has full control of the games, hopefully we’ll see them published on more consoles, such as Nintendo Switch 2!

The sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball on the GameCube, Mario Super Sluggers took the crazy action on the diamond up another couple of notches and delivered an exquisite sequel.

The game only got a 69/100 on Metacritic, but something about the number of characters and stages that you could play, combined with the faster pace of the baseball action compared to real life baseball, made this game a personal favorite in my household when I was in middle school. My brother and I would play this game for hours on end during the summer.

Each character had his or her own personal way of hitting and pitching, combined with crazy skills that fit their personalities and past traits in the Mushroom Kingdom. Like a lot of Mario’s sports games, Mario Super Sluggers felt like a celebration of everything related to Mario’s other games, just through the avenue of playing baseball.

Where is the next Mario baseball game? The series is a cult classic. Baseball is one of the most popular sports in both the United States and Japan, the latter of which is Nintendo’s home country. There needs to be another one of these games on the Switch 2. We all know how much Nintendo loves Mario’s sports games.

There has already been Mario Tennis Fever this year, but tennis has been an overdone sport for Mario. It’s overdue to go back to the diamond.

The only connection we have between Mario and baseball right now is through the Seattle Mariners. Nintendo has an ownership stake in that team, so the cross promotion between the two has been fun, but it’s not like getting a new video game. Maybe Julio Rodriguez can help encourage things!

But we almost missed out on Murphy’s iconic chuckle altogether.

Sylvester Stallone was attached to star in Beverly Hills Cop before ultimately leaving the project. The actor reportedly rewrote much of the script, transforming the movie into a more straightforward action film and increasing the budget in the process. Stallone later used elements of his version of the story as the basis for his 1986 action movie Cobra.

More than 40 years later, the original still stands as one of the most influential action comedies of its era. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives the film an 83% critics score and an 82% audience score.

In the end, Stallone’s decision to walk away helped create two very different movies. Cobra eventually emerged from elements of his rewritten script, while Eddie Murphy took Beverly Hills Cop in a direction that made Axel Foley an icon.

The company has already ended support for one game this month, and two more titles are scheduled to lose their online functionality on Aug. 31. NHL 22 and NHL 23 will both have their online servers shut down, making their multiplayer modes inaccessible.

Players who still own either game have just days left to jump online before those services disappear.

‘NHL 22’ and ‘NHL 23’ Are Losing Their Online Modes

According to EA’s schedule of upcoming service shutdowns, both NHL 22 and NHL 23 will have their online services discontinued on Aug. 31.

The games will not completely disappear, as players will still be able to access offline features. However, online multiplayer and other internet-dependent functionality will no longer be available.

The shutdown comes as EA continues to focus on newer entries in the long-running NHL franchise. NHL 24, NHL 25, and NHL 26 still have active online services, while NHL 27 is scheduled to arrive Sept. 11.

More EA Games Are Also Scheduled to Shut Down

The two hockey games aren’t the only EA titles losing online functionality in the coming months. Grid Legends is scheduled to have its online services shut down on Sept. 11. Meanwhile, NBA Mobile 26 is set to shut down on Oct. 27.

Unlike the NHL games and Grid Legends, which will retain offline functionality, NBA Mobile 26 will effectively become inaccessible once its services are discontinued. For now, though, NHL 22 and NHL 23 players have until the end of August to use their online modes before EA pulls the plug.

Moderate-to-severe cases increased, too. Among men, prevalence climbed from 3.1% in 2021 to 4.1% in 2024, with notable increases among men ages 35 to 49 and those 50 and older, the researchers reported.

“The notion that cannabis is not addictive may basically be incorrect,” Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the study’s senior author, told The New York Times.

That matters because cannabis products have changed. “The dosing is actually enabling us to see the emergence of the addictiveness,” Volkow told the NYT. “The higher the content of the drug, the higher the risk for addiction.”

The contrast with alcohol caught researchers’ attention. From 2021 through 2024, CUD and moderate-to-severe CUD increased while alcohol use disorder remained stable or declined, according to the study.

“This study highlights an anticipated consequence of rising levels of use and increasing potency of the product,” University of Ottawa researcher Dr. Daniel Myran told The New York Times. “The product is really changing under enormous pressure from market forces to increase the THC content.”

Federal data show the broader trend: Past-year marijuana use disorder among Americans 12 and older increased from 6% in 2021 to 7.1% in 2024, representing about 20.6 million people, according to SAMHSA.

The practical takeaway isn’t that every cannabis user will develop a disorder. It’s that difficulty cutting down, escalating use or continuing despite problems deserves attention—not dismissal as harmless habit.

York’s father was the former team co-owner John York, according to SFGate. In 2013, that publication called Danielle Belluomini York’s “new wife.” Jed York is in the news after he was accused of “suspicion of engaging in prostitution” in Ohio; he has pleaded non contest to the misdemeanor charges, according to ABC 7.

‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ Netflix Release Window

Sony’s “Pay-1” licensing deal with Netflix dictates that the streaming service will become the streaming home of Sony Pictures releases, once said film’s theatrical and PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) release periods have finished.

The typical release window from theatrical premiere to Netflix release is approximately 120 days, according to data compiled by What’s on Netflix. Although the film is still very much in the development stages, if The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event is ready on time for its planned release of April 7, 2028, the films should reach Netflix on Saturday, August 5, 2028 — although the popularity of its theatrical run may alter this date.

However, there’s a potential caveat to this. While not confirmed by Sony, actor Barry Keoghan, who plays Ringo Starr in the films, says he believes the four films — which, as of August 2026, do not have their own respective titles — may be released two weeks apart. There’s been no formal confirmation of this, and it could very well just be a theory of Keoghan’s, but the four films may have separate Netflix dates, depending on release schedule and their popularity in theaters.

Variety broke the news that AMC is closing AMC Kips Bay 15 by the end of the year. “We expect that AMC Kips Bay 15 will continue operating until the end of 2026, at which time the theatre will close following the property owner’s decision to exercise its contractual right to terminate the theatre’s lease before its scheduled expiration,” a spokesperson for the company told Variety.

The decision caught some movie buffs by surprise, and they are irate about it.

“End of an era. So many memories seeing movie here as a kid,” a man wrote on X.

Fans Unloaded Online After the AMC Announcement

Fans were unhappy about the closure. “Whut????? Kips Bay has been my second go-to theater in NYC after Lincoln for the better part of the 21st century. Its IMAX screen is very good and will be missed,” wrote one man on X.

“NY has barely got any good theaters left. This city is becoming laughable. How do complain about people not coming to the theaters enough & then finally decide to close after one of your biggest years yet ? Ridiculous… I won’t be mad if streaming truly takes over,” wrote another person.

“This is the worst thing that could have possibly happened today,” a fan concluded.

“That’s a blow to movie goers on the east side of Manhattan. Theaters are few over there and what is there is not great,” added another person.

The Kips Bay 15 Theater Had 15 Screens and an IMAX Theater

The theater offered a lot – 15 screens and an IMAX experience. So why is it closing?

NBC New York Called Kips Bay 15 “a staple of the theater chain’s New York footprint.” According to NBC New York, the theater is located in an area where a hospital expansion is planned.

The multiplex movie theater was located on Second Avenue near East 31st Street. “The theater first opened in 1999, with AMC taking over operations in 2006,” Time Out reported, noting that fans enjoyed the variety of movie options since many other theaters in Manhattan are a lot smaller. The theater also offered discount matinees.

“Depressed is an understatement,” a movie fan wrote on X. “Apparently the AMC Kips Bay will be closing by December because the NYU hospital is expanding. A perfect encapsulation of our times,” wrote another person.

However, City Reporter noted that it’s not clear what will end up in the theater space. “The land where the theater stands is owned by Kips Bay Development Limited Partnership, which is affiliated with JD Carlisle Development Corp. and MD Carlisle Construction Corp.,” that site reported.

According to Deadline, the only Manhattan theater that boasts more screens than Kips Bay 15 is an AMC theater that is located in Times Square.

Today, August 24, 2026, marks the 36th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker on the Sega Genesis. Loosely based on the 1988 film of the same name, the game was one of the earliest video games in history to focus on a celebrity and would also mark the start of a long partnership between Jackson and Sega.

The story of the game is based on the Smooth Criminal section of the Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker film. Players play as Jackson as he attempts to rescue children from a drug dealer called Mr. Big.

The gameplay style is shockingly similar to other side-scrolling beat ’em up titles of the late 80s and early 90s, like Double Dragon. Jackson‘s attacks are dance moves, and yes, he can moonwalk, despite it not being an attack or being used for any other gameplay purpose. Jackson can even make a full screen of enemies dance to knock them out instantly at the cost of health.

Additionally, the NOAA revealed that during the October-December 2026 season, there is now a 69% chance of a historic event that would exceed the strength of previous El Niño events dating back to 1950. Historical records from the NOAA only date back to 1950, but other reports suggest this could be one of the strongest El Niños in history.

This El Niño “is something that’s very unusual, if not a once in a lifetime type of (strength),” according to Nat Johnson, a meteorologist with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

El Niño is a natural climate cycle marked by warmer than average water temperatures along the equator in the Pacific Ocean. The warmer water triggers corresponding shifts in the atmosphere that have a domino-like influence on weather patterns around the globe – usually in ways that are largely predictable well in advance.

What Will Winter Bring Amid Super El Niño?

The NOAA revealed this winter could bring “copious” precipitation to the West Coast, namely parts of California, that saw historic precipitation during the last El Nino.

“Additionally the tilt toward above normal precipitation extends along almost the entire East Coast from November, December and January through February, March and April,” it said. “Meanwhile, along the West Coast, recent EP-based strong El Niños have produced copious precipitation, especially in late winter, with 2024 and 1998 being among the wettest Februaries in the last 100 years for parts of California.”

Taking that into account, the NOAA increased probabilities above normal precipitation to more than 50 percent across much of coastal California and adjacent areas of southern Arizona.

A snowfall anomaly map from the Sacramento Bee revealed the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in California will see well above normal snow as winter continues, spiking in January.

Meanwhile, Bill Rock, Vail Resorts Mountain Division president, revealed in a prepared statement that, “While no one can predict exactly what Mother Nature will deliver, the possibility of blockbuster snowfall has us feeling optimistic about the winter ahead.”

A historic snowfall map from the NOAA revealed what typically happens during a “moderate-to-strong” El Niño in winter with much higher than typical snowfall in states like California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Virginia, Delaware and Southern parts of New Jersey.

A historical El Niño map from The Weather Channel, meanwhile, showed Southern states are more likely to receive more snow during an El Niño winter, while Northern states are likely to see less than normal snowfall compared to non-El Niño winters with warmer temperatures impacting overall snowfall.

Forbes notes in the story of York’s valuation, “York’s mother Denise and her family are worth an estimated $8.5 billion. Marvel Rivals will likely be showcasing its Season 10 DLC characters, one of whom is heavily speculated to be Nightcrawler.

Some of the September game releases, like Wolverine, Control Resonant, and Silent Hill: Townfall could be shown as well, for a final marketing blitz before a very crowded month begins.

It’s also possible some of the major October games will be shown, too, like Final Fantasy Resonance and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.

50-year-old Jenny Lupton was reportedly found dead this week after falling 24 floors from the balcony of her hotel room while staying in Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon hearing news of her death, Lupton’s family has demanded an investigation, fearing “foul play.”

Lupton Found Dead

Lupton had been part of the Southwest Airlines cabin crew for more than two decades. According to the New York Post, she was found dead near a dumpster outside the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort in Waikiki, located just southeast of central Honolulu.

Her family was informed by the Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner that Lupton appeared to have fallen from the balcony of her 24th-floor hotel room. Officials indicated that the injuries she sustained were consistent with a fall from that height.

“The Southwest Airlines family is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague during a layover in Hawaii. We have offered our condolences and support to the Employee’s family and co-workers and are engaged with local authorities as they investigate,” Southwest Airlines wrote in a statement.

Family Fears ‘Foul Play’

Following her death, Lupton’s family has asked for a thorough investigation as they do not believe that she took her own life.

Her sister, Tresa Lupton, said that she had been in contact with her sister just hours before her death.

“She just went out with one of her flight attendant friends, and they danced and had a good time,” Tresa Lupton told News 9. “She had gotten a tattoo while she was there.”

The family said that Lupton was in Hawaii for work, but she planned to stay there for several days and then return to her home. Now, Lupton’s sisters will be traveling to Hawaii to bring her home and search for answers regarding her death.

“See for ourselves how this all went down,” Lupton said. “The timeline doesn’t make sense, and we are afraid that maybe there was foul play.”

The Honolulu Police Department has confirmed that it has initiated an Unattended Death investigation and will not be releasing any further information at this time.

In interviews around mid-2026, including a discussion with The New York Times and coverage that continued into July and August, the actor, writer, and producer offered a perspective that cuts against one of Silicon Valley’s favorite assumptions: that having millions is merely the starting point for making billions.

Southwest Airlines has also issued a statement on the death, as the airline announced that it is engaging with local authorities regarding the investigation.

It’s no surprise that a Call of Duty title would do decently well, especially one in the Modern Warfare series, but it certainly feels like the franchise’s hype has tapered off. Now, I’m sure you’ve heard that before; many times people have wanted to claim that COD is dead, and many times those same people have had to eat crow.

Just last year, everyone assumed that Battlefield 6 was going to be the dominant first-person shooter for the year. That game reached a peak concurrent player count of 747,440 on Steam, but it has since settled into the 70K range. Before that, people bet on Ubisoft’s XDefiant to be the COD killer, but that only lasted a year before being permanently shut down. 

Though I’d like to submit another game to possibly take the crown from Call of Duty, and that’s a new tactical warfare game called WARDOGS. Bulkhead developed the game and shared what they were going for on their Steam page. 

“WARDOGS is a TACTICAL ALL OUT WARFARE FPS where one hundred players split across three teams fight over the control zone. Set in the derelict industrial mountains of Eastern Europe on a destructible battlefield where teamwork pays and cash is king.” 

The game looks like it sits somewhere between the large-scale chaos of Battlefield, with matches supporting up to 100 players across three teams, and the more tactical gameplay of ARMA. 

What really sets it apart is how the gear works; we live in a post-Escape From Tarkov and Arc Raiders world where gamers have gotten used to risking their loot each life. WARDOGS brings that into a more standard multiplayer match: as the match progresses, players earn in-game cash for completing objectives, which they can use to buy equipment and weapons for their team. This creates the need for more strategy on how a player approaches the game. You can play aggressively enough to earn cash but not so recklessly that you lose everything you’ve worked for. 

Ever since Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds broke out into the mainstream, the simple thrill of winning a team death match has eroded. These days, players are more into the rush that having something to lose provides. For battle royal games, it was one death and the game was over. This paved the way for extraction shooters, where not only is your game over, but you may also lose something you’ve worked hard to obtain. WARDOGS tries to merge the classic multiplayer style of Call of Duty or Battlefield with the stakes of an extraction shooter.

To me, that’s commendable; it isn’t just trying to be the next COD or Tarkov, but instead a new thing inspired by both but uniquely its own. That’s why I believe that WARDOGS could be the COD killer… at least for 2026.

Over the weekend, Robert Patrick—who played the lethal, shapeshifting T-1000—shared a photo from For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi fan convention in London to social media, showing him reuniting with Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, and Michael Biehn.

Hamilton, of course, starred as Sarah Connor in the Terminator films, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger as the killer cyborg and Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese. Furlong played her son, John Connor, in the sequel, in which Biehn also returned for a dream sequence originally excised from the film but included in the Director’s Cut.

“Skynet definitely didn’t have this reunion in the original programming. T2 family back together 👍🏼,” Patrick captioned the post.

The event was a rare public outing for Furlong, who was famously replaced by actor Nick Stahl in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. According to Furlong himself, it was his issues with substance abuse that prevented him from returning. 

“That was the contract. They were like, ‘We want you to not do any drugs.’ Whatever, just sign a clause in the contract, no drugs. And it was a sweet deal. It was the best deal that I had ever gotten in my life. For T3, it was like a lot of money, like millions,” he shared in an interview with Michael Rosenbaum in 2024. 

After signing, he said he went out with his friends to celebrate and overdosed on cocaine. He was then dropped from the film. Furlong does still act and often makes convention appearances with some of his Terminator family.

Hamilton, Biehn, and Patrick have all kept busy since 1991 as well.

Hamilton would reprise her role as Sarah Connor in 2019 for Terminator: Dark Fate, as well as a voice cameo in 2009’s Terminator Salvation. She also appeared on Chuck, the final season of Stranger Things, and SyFy’s Resident Alien. Hamilton, of course, also had a child with and married T2 director James Cameon, though they split in 1999. 

Biehn also starred in Cameron’s Aliens and The Abyss, as well as films including The Rock, Grindhouse, and the upcoming film Onslaught. Patrick, meanwhile, later starred as Agent Doggett on The X-Files, and appeared in projects including Fire in the Sky, The Faculty, True Blood, Reacher, and, most recently, Peacemaker.

The World Raid takes nearly everything riders love about Yamaha’s middleweight adventure bike—its bulletproof simplicity, torquey CP2 engine, and genuine off-road capability—and addresses some of its biggest weaknesses. A larger 6.1-gallon fuel capacity stretches estimated range beyond 300 miles, beefier fully adjustable KYB suspension transforms its handling, and long-awaited additions like cruise control make covering serious highway miles considerably easier.

Those upgrades feel tailor-made for the United States. We have more than 4 million miles of public roads, huge stretches of unpaved country, and enough empty space to make fuel range matter. An adventure motorcycle designed to disappear into that landscape for days at a time makes an awful lot of sense.

After riding the World Raid from Boise into Idaho’s mountains, hammering it down highways, fast gravel roads, rocky two-track, and technical trails, I came away convinced of two things: This is the best Ténéré Yamaha has built, and it may be one of the best long-distance adventure bikes you can buy at any price.

What Sets the Yamaha Ténéré World Raid Apart?

We love the Ténéré here in the U.S. It’s dumb reliable, makes great torque, isn’t overly complex, and eats up highway miles and off-road trails alike with abandon. The folks at Yamaha say the Ténéré formula is so effective it became the best selling middleweight ADV in the country last year, and I believe it.  

That being said, as a long-distance adventure touring machine, the standard Ténéré has always had a few shortcomings best solved in the aftermarket. Yamaha’s aim with the World Raid is to give serious long-haul adventure riders everything they want and need right out of the box. 

That starts with better suspension, a common complaint among Ténéré owners who like to push their machines faster and harder than your average joe. The World Raid upgrades the standard model’s fully-adjustable 43mm KYB fork to a beefier 46mm unit. It also gets an extra inch of travel, as well as improved internals for a better ride and more bottoming resistance on big hits. 

The rear shock also gains an inch of travel, as well as full adjustability for preload, compression, and rebound. Yamaha says the upgraded shock improves both small and big bump absorption while also giving riders a more progressive ramp-up through the stroke. 

The other big ticket improvement for the World Raid is range: Twin rally-style fuel tanks with a whopping 6.1 gallons of capacity replace the standard 4.2 gallon tank, boosting estimated range to over 300 miles per fill-up. No more Acerbis tank or auxiliary fuel cell required. 

Yamaha equips the World Raid with a more sophisticated electronics package than the standard T7 as well, adding convenience and flexibility to the overall experience. Electronic cruise control, which is glaringly absent from the standard model, comes standard for the World Raid, as do 6-axis IMU-enabled settings for both on and off-road traction control and slide control at the rear wheel. 

Other highlights include improved wind protection, a larger skid plate, beefier footpegs, and a 16-step adjustable steering damper for better stability in rough off-road conditions. 

Yamaha Ténéré World Raid On Road Impressions

I own a standard Ténéré myself, and while I love the bike, I didn’t buy it for its on-road handling. It’s always been a riot on a twisty piece of pavement, but it also feels a bit top-heavy/tippy when leaning into corners and the front end gets a little vague when pushed. That’s no longer the case with the Ténéré World Raid. 

Here we have a bike that loves to be flung into corners, and feels as confident as you could ask for on the side of the tire. There are two clear reasons for this. 

The first is that new, beefier, 46mm KYB fork I mentioned, which is an absolute delight on pavement. Everything you do feels stable and controlled, whether we’re talking about brake dive headed into a sharp bend or hold up at the apex. The World Raid slows, leans, and holds a line exceptionally well, end of story. 

The second, believe it or not, is that new two-piece fuel tank. Yes, there’s more overall fuel weight on the bike, but because the split tank setup moves that weight lower and further to the sides, transitions between corners are now fluid and sure-footed, with no initial tipping sensation to work around. 

And while the beefier suspension is noticeably firmer, comfort and ride quality on the road remain outstanding. Small bump compliance over road imperfections is great, while a comfortable one-piece seat, solid wind protection, and dialed ergonomics make for an all day comfortable machine right off the showroom floor. 

The first day of our three-day test was mainly interstate travel, getting from downtown Boise and out into the backcountry as efficiently as possible. I’m happy to report the World Raid cruises at 80 mph with minimal vibes and great wind protection, and thanks to the now-standard cruise control, you can give your right hand a break from highway drudgery with the push of a button. 

In the Dirt With the Ténéré World Raid

Our friends living overseas have had multiple versions of the Ténéré to choose from for years. There’s the base model T7, the off-road-focused Ténéré Rally (or Ténéré Extreme, depending on the year), and the mile-munching, travel-focused Ténéré World Raid I tested that’s finally coming to the U.S. this month. 

And while the World Raid is, with its massive fuel tanks and added creature comforts, certainly the most touring-friendly T7 of the bunch, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s any less capable in the dirt than either of its stablemates. It’s quite the opposite, in fact. 

Once again, the beefed up KYB suspension absolutely transforms the bike in the dirt. Where the standard Ténéré often feels a bit soft or bouncy on gnarlier terrain, the World Raid is as firm and ready to rip as a fella could ask for. 

So much so, in fact, that even smaller rocks on flat gravel roads or two-track trails can feel a bit harsh in the factory configuration. Assuming you aren’t looking to huck any big jumps or crush 80mph G-outs, you’ll want to take advantage of that fully adjustable suspension, which becomes much more plush and compliant when softened up a few clicks front and rear.

Once you’ve got those clickers dialed in, the bike is an absolute peach that floats confidently over small bumps but still holds plenty of travel in reserve for big hits. Over three days of riding, I dropped the World Raid down a few dozen rock shelves and even hit a few improvised jumps, and I never once managed to blow through the stroke or hit a harsh bottom. Put simply, the stock suspension is good to go regardless of how hard you ride, which is a big deal considering Ténéré owners often drop anywhere from $3,000-$6,000 on aftermarket suspension from brands like Rally Raid and MX-Tech. 

I was also pleasantly surprised at just how well the World Raid handled more technical terrain. On downhill corners strewn with loose, baby head rocks, the Ténéré’s well-sprung fork and adjustable steering damper kept the front end tracking surprisingly well, even under hard braking with a fully locked rear wheel. 

Speaking of braking, I also can’t exaggerate just how many times the World Raid’s off-road ABS saved my bacon. Like all the electronics on the Ténéré, the ABS functionality is straightforward: you can leave it fully on and lean-sensitive for the street, independently switch off the rear for off-road, or turn both front and rear off entirely for full analog control. 

The end of our final day of testing was marked by a series of steep, loose, descents which, more often than not, ended in some pretty gnarly hairpin turns. And while more skilled riders have no issue braking hard in the loose stuff on a bike this tall and heavy, weekend warriors like myself need all the help they can get to keep the shiny side up. 

Being able to confidently grab a handful of front brake on a gnarly, technical descent without fear of losing the front end is a godsend for just that reason. I’d be sweating this stuff on a proper enduro with properly knobby tires, but even on the World Raid’s fairly street-biased Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR rubber, I managed to make it out the other side without dropping the bike once. 

I wouldn’t go so far as to say the World Raid is beginner friendly, as you’re reminded you’re on a tall and fairly heavy machine every time the going gets slow and technical, but if you’re the type of rider that’s willing to tackle some tech, the World Raid is a willing companion. 

Complaint Department

I think it’s fair to say that the Ténéré World Raid is, objectively, the best T7 Yamaha has built to date. It’s got the best street manners of the bunch, a much more off-road capable suspension package, and more electronic bells and whistles than any Ténéré before it. That being said, like all adventure bikes, the World Raid still makes some compromises. 

The first and most glaring issue I’ll note is that the World Raid still suffers from the same rear brake woes of every Ténéré 700 that came before it. These bikes have all shared the same rear brake lever since the first one rolled off the showroom floor, and the fact that the lever is both squishy and requires far too much articulation before it engages has been a well documented complaint, especially when standing on the bike off-road. 

That means prospective owners should still plan on sending $150 to the fine folks at CamelADV in exchange for their now infamous “the fix” rear brake pedal. This hilariously simple solution consists of a slightly reshaped pedal and linkage clevis, which leaves new generation T7 owners wondering why Yamaha has yet to implement this basic fix themselves. 

Next on my wishlist would be another 10 to 20 horsepower, another common request of every T7 owner since time immemorial. Yes, the CP2 engine delivers the same grin-inducing torque and outrageous reliability it always has, and yes, I still love it in a borderline unhealthy fashion, but the added weight of the World Raid trim has those 689cc’s working harder than ever to do what’s expected of them.

For off-road enthusiasts, I’ll also note that while the upgraded KYB suspension is a bonafide godsend, the larger/wider tank will interfere with your ability to get up and over the front of the bike somewhat. It’s not a glaring issue, and Yamaha says it’s an improvement over the previous European World Raid, but if you’re the type that likes to dig your heels in and put some power to the ground, you can expect to find your knees bumping up against the tank from time to time. 

Lastly, I’ll say I wouldn’t mind seeing a few accessory improvements for the price. The World Raid comes with a fairly thin three-piece aluminum skid plate rather than the beefy one-piece protection offered in the Yamaha accessory catalog ($389), and the excellent up-down quickshifter I had on my test bike is still an optional ($199) accessory as well.  

Should You Buy A Yamaha Ténéré World Raid?

This is going to be an emphatic “yes” from me, and I’d say that even if the only improvement were the upgraded fork and shock. Considering the fact that the World Raid only commands a $2,000 premium over the standard model (and most T7 owners spend a lot more than that sorting out their suspension), the value is difficult to overstate here. 

In terms of quality-per-dollar, the World Raid rides circles around all of its middleweight Japanese competitors while also undercutting the price of its premium European rivals by a fat margin. Some riders may see its lack of endlessly adjustable electronics as a shortcoming, but I’ll wager just as many view it as an advantage. 

I started this review with the proposition that the Yamaha Ténéré World Raid is the best long distance adventure touring bike currently on the market, and I’ll close it by driving that point home. When your goal is to go as far and wide as possible, reliability and capability are the two most important features any adventure motorcycle can offer. 

If you can’t trust your bike to simply get you out there and back without some catastrophic engine or electronic failure, how far will you really be willing to go? And if that same bike can’t deliver the goods when the road turns into a rocky, sandy, downhill hellscape, how far can you really expect to make it? 

The Ténéré World Raid delivers on both fronts, backing the most reliable power plant on the market with the uber-capable chassis it’s always deserved. Add to that 300+ miles of range, cruise control, and a genuinely comfortable place to sit, and you’ve got a machine that couldn’t be more at home anywhere on the map.

On the anniversary of his death, Wyatt’s widow Joseann “JoJo” Offerman shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, filled with smiling photos of the two. Along with it, she offered heartfelt words to the late wrestler, whom she originally planned to marry by the end of 2023.

“OK, let me look it up,” he says, scrolling on his computer, looking for clues, trying to pinpoint the exact moment and time he found out Golf Channel was reviving Big Break after more than a decade off the air, a reality TV sports competition series he grew up watching.

After playing the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions (an LPGA pro-am tournament) a couple of years ago in Orlando, Florida, Adams sauntered over to nearby Park Pizza & Brewing Company with his pal, former LPGA Tour pro and Golf Channel personality Blair O’Neal.

At that point, O’Neal, the season 14 winner of Big Break, had been tapped to host the show. They sat at one of the middle tables of the joint, eating pizza and drinking beers, when O’Neal broke the news to Adams. And his excitement got the best of him.

“Obviously, as a person who has been making reality TV for the better part of a decade, I was like, ‘I’ve got ideas. This is what you’ve got to do. This is what’s changed with reality TV, and these are the things you could do,'” Adams recalls telling O’Neal. “I remember it vividly.”

Adams says he “never had any ambition or desire to be on the show,” but bringing him on to co-host season 24 of Big Break alongside O’Neal made too much sense, and she agrees.

“Wells and I have played in a lot of golf tournaments together over the years, and he’s always been so much fun to be around. When they brought up his name as co-host for Big Break, I knew he would be great,” O’Neal tells Men’s Journal. “But having now filmed this season with him, I can tell you he’s even better than I expected! He’s quick-witted, thoughtful, prepared, and most importantly, he genuinely loves golf and Big Break. With his experience in reality TV, he brings a different dynamic and a fresh perspective to the show. He’s been such a great addition, and I absolutely love having him by my side throughout this journey.”

Yes, he’s charming, cerebral, and confident, but the 42-year-old’s surgical precision and methodical approach to his rising television career explain why he’s a transcendent figure.

Consider this:

Adams, who hails from golf paradise (Monterey, California, home to Pebble Beach), earned a degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Mississippi. Before long, he was a constant presence on the radio in Nashville, Tennessee. History shows that most citizens of Bachelor Nation, at this point, reach a glass ceiling they can’t break; an unforgiving vortex far too few have escaped. Jesse Palmer, Travis Stork, and Rachel Lindsay are the rare exception.

And now, Adams.

He went on to host Hulu’s Best in Dough, appeared on Peacock’s The Traitors, and hosts Food Network’s Sweet Empire: Winter Wars. An avid golfer, Adams launched The Vanity Index podcast (Wednesdays at 10 a.m. ET on Golf Channel) alongside Chad Mumm in 2025, a jump into golf far too few predicted, which begs the question:

Have you met Wells Adams?

Most golfers on God’s green Earth can only hope to play a round at Pebble Beach. Adams played there as a kid, competing in junior golf. He also played at the famed Spyglass Hill Golf Course against his high school rival.

The golf bucket lists kept growing, and Adams kept checking them off.

He nailed his first hole-in-one in 2021, attended The Masters for the first time in 2023 (a Christmas gift from Hyland, #WifeGoals), and cried literal tears after laying his eyes on Amen Corner at Augusta National Golf Club. Sports Illustrated golf writer Herbert Warren Wind christened the famous three-hole stretch (Nos. 11, 12, and 13) in 1958, “where a champion is made, and others are broken,” due to the intimidating bend’s “water hazards, creeks, and vicious doglegs.”

But for a true near-religious experience, Adams can thank one of his best friends, former Bachelor host Chris Harrison.

Not long ago, Harrison had planned a trip to Scotland to play a round at The Old Course, established in 1552 in St. Andrews and long regarded as “The Home of Golf.” A friend in that group, however, backed out, and Harrison needed someone “who was a big enough sicko” (Adams’ words) to drop everything, book a round-trip flight to Scotland, and jet out in less than two weeks to join the group. Adams was that guy. And that guy not only played on golf’s holiest of grounds, which included crossing the famed Swilcan Bridge, but also stayed at Rusacks, a five-star hotel famous for its location next to the 18th hole.

“I grew up in a place where I thought that I knew what the greatest golf was,” Adams tells Men’s Journal. “And then I went to The Old Course, and it’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to a religious experience.”

Yes, long before he was behind the mic at WRLT’s Lightning 100 in Nashville, or offered himself as a suitor on reality TV dating shows, or hosted cooking competitions, Adams’ DNA was, and continues to be, transparently green.

He recalls watching Big Break (golf’s version of Wipeout meets Survivor) as a teen when it premiered in 2003. The show aired 23 seasons until it was canceled in 2015. The series earned a cult-like following when Golf Channel aired reruns during the global pandemic (past seasons are available on GolfPass), and an argument can be made that the series sparked the golf content creator movement. Good Good, founded in July 2020 as a YouTube channel, is now a juggernaut in the space. It’s no surprise, then, that Golf Channel partnered with Good Good to revive Big Break, with the season 24 winner earning a sponsor exemption to the PGA Tour’s inaugural Good Good Golf Championship (Nov. 12-15) at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas.

In a short time, Good Good has become a media company synonymous with young golfers, spawning a slew of golf content creators trying to emulate the business model. For Good Good, it’s been good business. The company reportedly raised $45 million last year. But there have also been growing pains for the burgeoning enterprise, courtesy of a tone-deaf campaign over the weekend. Good Good drew immediate backlash after a branded ad for Callaway’s new Quantum driver showed Good Good’s co-founder and GM, Garrett Clark, pushing employee Alexis Miestowski as she’s about to reach into his bag for the driver.

After shoving her to the ground, he stands over and says, “Do not touch my new driver.” Good Good has since pulled the ad and apologized, saying that the “depicted actions … are not aligned with our values as a brand.” Callaway, an LPGA Tour partner, also released a statement over the weekend saying, “We are disappointed by the content that was posted, and are appreciative of Good Good for addressing this. We look forward to working together to ensure a more inclusive space in golf.”

In a statement to Golf Digest, a PGA Tour spokesperson said, “The PGA Tour believes in golf’s ability to bring people together and create a welcoming environment for all. We do not condone violence in any form, and the since-deleted video does not reflect our values or commitment to inclusivity and respect.”

Good Good’s rise from startup to a legitimate player in major golf is undeniable. It’s why Golf Channel partnered with the fledgling media company in hopes of tapping into Good Good’s more than 2.1 million YouTube channel subscribers. When Big Break premieres Tuesday night, Good Good hopes to help Golf Channel cater to an audience that has organically and exponentially gravitated to YouTube over the last few years.

Adams and O’Neal, alongside Good Good’s Brad Dalke and Tom “Bubbie” Broders as non-playing team captains, filmed all 10 episodes of season 24 in a matter of weeks at Horseshoe Bay Resort, about an hour outside of Austin. In that short time, Adams says he witnessed reality TV magic. Given his extensive resume in that department, he would know. It’s why he’s adamant that Golf Channel is meeting the moment.

“At the end of the day, that’s what [parent company] Versant and Golf Channel are trying to do: get the most ratings. If they can get a fraction of what the YouTube numbers are getting, it’ll be one of the biggest channels in the world, right?” Adams argues. “Everyone’s trying to figure out a way to get that YouTube stuff back to cable and network TV, and I think that this is a good step in the right direction for that and bringing all those people over.

“And listen, it’s the one thing I have against YouTube golf: the production value is really low. It’s not really shot like a TV show. It doesn’t have the best cameras. It doesn’t have the best mics. But when we did Big Break, this was a full-on professional TV show with boom operators and sequencing. Everything’s really, really polished. It’ll be a good marriage of what people love about YouTube golf and what people really appreciate about a good network cable show.”

Before he was officially enlisted, Adams had a whirl of ideas he thought would benefit the show he loved watching. Then came the phone call from Tom Knapp, Golf Channel’s Executive Vice President. The call came when Adams was driving home from LAX after spending time in Toronto filming Food Network’s Sweet Empire.

“I was kind of on a high ’cause I thought [Sweet Empire] was such a cool gig, right? Like, I just ate dessert for six weeks and gained 20 pounds,” he quipped.

Knapp didn’t need to convince Adams.

‘He was like, ‘Crazy idea, but you know Big Break is coming back. We need a co-host with Blair,” Adams recalls.

Adams says Knapp told him he’s a unique white whale in this world because he’s a host and has a breadth of experience in reality TV.

“‘Do you want to host it with her?'” Adams recalls Knapp asking him. “And my first thought was, as long as she’s okay, you know, like if she wants me to be a part of this, then sure! But, of course, I was like, absolutely. Don’t tell my agents this, but I’d have done this for free.”

Adams remembers getting out of his car, walking into his home, and his wife asking him, “How’d it go?”

Hyland was asking about filming Sweet Empire in Toronto.

“And I was like, ‘I have bigger news,'” Adams says with a wide grin. “‘I think I’m hosting this show!'”

Indeed, he is.

In a Facebook Reel circulated around August 21, Chitwood accused Voelz of suggesting that a deputy being shot in the line of duty was fabricated as a political maneuver. According to Chitwood’s account, Voelz alleged the incident was staged to justify closing a road and preventing him from reaching a Deltona City Commission meeting.

Chitwood had zero gentle rebuke for the candidate. He characterized Voelz’s conduct as evidence of profoundly poor judgment and portrayed him as someone who would be a “disaster” if elected. The sheriff also used the word “moron” while attacking the candidate’s credibility and judgment.

“I know residents of Deltona have seen some weird behavior lately from Jason Voelz- Mayor Candidate for City of Deltona,” wrote the Sheriff. “The truth is he’s been showing us for months that he’d be a disaster.”

The allegation is particularly explosive because it involves a real law-enforcement incident and a claim that public safety authorities manufactured it for political purposes.

The Sheriff Takes Aim at Voelz

Chitwood’s criticism also extends beyond the disputed shooting claim. He points to Voelz’s history of seeking or considering multiple political offices, including the Florida Senate, Volusia County Council and Deltona municipal positions.

The sheriff’s argument is essentially political: if Voelz was prepared to publicly advance such a serious accusation without evidence, voters should question whether he possesses the judgment required to run a city.

There is an important caveat. The specific “faked shooting” allegation is circulating primarily through Chitwood’s social-media response, and major mainstream outlets have not independently established the full circumstances or context of Voelz’s original statement. That distinction matters when evaluating the competing claims.

A 51-Vote Margin Raises the Stakes

The controversy arrives just after Deltona’s August 18 mayoral primary, where the race produced a remarkably narrow result.

Vice Mayor Maritza A. Vazquez finished first, while Voelz placed second, reportedly separated from Vazquez by roughly 51 votes. Incumbent Mayor Santiago Avila Jr. finished third and was eliminated.

“Surprisingly enough,” wrote the Sheriff, “this moron made it through this week’s primary. Deltona residents need to know who Jason is before they accidentally elect a clown.”

That result sends Vazquez and Voelz into a November runoff, giving voters another opportunity to weigh the controversy, Voelz’s campaign promises on development, taxes, fees and infrastructure, and Chitwood’s blistering assessment of the candidate.

For Voelz, the election is now about far more than being an outsider promising change. He must contend with one of the region’s most prominent law-enforcement officials publicly questioning his judgment, while voters decide whether the sheriff’s extraordinary accusations are disqualifying or simply another chapter in an increasingly combative local political race.

The Superman star was set to star as Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO Max’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The character is pivotal to the second book in J.K. Rowling’s series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, with Kenneth Branagh previously playing him in the original films. 

Per Deadline, scheduling issues are to blame for the recast, as HBO had to work around two pre-existing projects for Hoult and it was no longer feasible once production on Season 2 shifted. 

The role will now be played by Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington, with Deadline noting he was available “and excited to take over the role.” This is actually the second time Harington has played Lockhart, after voicing the character in Audible’s Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions last year.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone debuts on Christmas Day 2026.

Family instability, poverty, parental conflict, and neighborhood conditions frequently overlap with father absence, making simplistic claims dangerous. Still, the evidence is substantial.

A review of 47 studies using stronger causal methods found that father absence has negative effects on several dimensions of child well-being, with particularly consistent evidence involving high-school graduation, social-emotional adjustment and adult mental health. The researchers also found that behavioral effects can be more pronounced for boys.

Boys Appear Especially Vulnerable at Critical Stages

Longitudinal research gives the argument more weight. A UK study following 15,293 families found that father absence at age three predicted higher levels of childhood difficulties at age five, while absence at age five predicted difficulties at age seven.

Education offers another warning sign. Research using Add Health data found that boys living without a biological father were substantially less likely to graduate from high school, although the researchers cautioned against claiming that boys suffer uniquely across every long-term economic outcome. A separate meta-analysis of 66 studies found a statistically significant association between father involvement and academic achievement.

It’s an important distinction because fatherlessness is a risk factor, not a destiny.

Why Policymakers Keep Dancing Around It

The political difficulty is obvious. Discussing fathers can become entangled with divorce, poverty, incarceration, gender politics, and questions about mothers’ choices. Policymakers therefore tend to emphasize income support, childcare and education while treating father involvement as secondary.

That may be an expensive omission. Danish research on paternal incarceration found that losing a father to prison substantially increased the risk of failing to complete compulsory schooling, with effects particularly concentrated among boys.

A serious family policy agenda should therefore ask not merely how to compensate children after fathers disappear, but how to preserve constructive father-child relationships before that happens. That means reducing unnecessary family fragmentation, supporting responsible fatherhood and treating involved fathers as an asset in child development rather than an awkward subject best avoided.

Director Guy Ritchie explained at Netflix’s Tudum event, “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight.” He continued, “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

This news breaks less than a week after rumors that Meghan Markle was in talks for a role in The Gentlemen. The rumors started after Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, revealed they were leaving California and relocating to the U.K.

Unfortunately, that offer has apparently been withdrawn, according to Tina Brown, former Vanity Fair and New York Magazine editor-in-chief, who wrote on her Substack, “I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn.” Brown, who has written multiple books on the royal family, continued, “The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK. More to come.”

The Gentlemen was created and directed by Ritchie, who also directed the 2019 film by the same name. Although the stories exist in the same universe, they do not share the same characters at this time.

Released in 2024, Season 1 of The Gentlemen was a success for Netflix, receiving mostly positive reviews from critics. In a review for The Telegraph, the show was characterized as “everything you want from a Guy Ritchie caper.”  

The show stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman alongside Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, and Vinnie Jones. Also featured in the newest trailer are Ray Winstone, Jasmine Blackboror, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Peace Quigley, and Giancarlo Esposito. Joining the cast are Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Chris Eubank Jr., and Maya Jama, as well as many more.

The official logline explains that Season 2 starts one year after James and Scodelario’s characters, Eddie and Susie, began working together. “As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound.  Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…”

Season 2 of The Gentlemen premieres September 3 on Netflix.

On August 24, 1989, Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose – MLB’s all-time leader in hits and then-manager of the Reds – accepted a permanent place on Major League Baseball’s ineligible list for gambling on baseball games, including games involving his own team. This ruling forbade Rose from continuing his baseball career and barred him from induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

The latter decision created one of the most contentious debates in sports, with many baseball fans arguing that Rose’s playing career is more than worthy of enshrinement into Cooperstown in spite of his actions. Others have argued that if players like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens (two all-time greats not inducted due to PED-related controversies) and Shoeless Joe Jackson (also on the ineligible list for his role in the 1919 Black Sox Scandal) aren’t inducted, then neither should Rose.

For his part, Rose applied for reinstatement several times over the next 34 years but was rejected or outright ignored each time. However, on May 13, 2025, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred ruled that all banned players are reinstated after death: Rose died seven months earlier, on September 30, 2024.

As a result of Manfred’s new ruling, Rose is now eligible for Hall of Fame consideration. The Veterans Committee will vote on “Charlie Hustle” during MLB’s Winter Meetings in 2027, alongside other players in the “Classic Baseball” category (pre-1980 baseball players).

Pete Rose’s Complicated Legacy

When looking at the numbers, Rose should be a shoe-in for enshrinement. Besides being the all-time hit king with 4,256 knocks, Rose’s longevity was unrivaled with an MLB-record 3,562 games played and 15,876 plate appearances over 24 seasons with the Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos.

Even though he played for so long, Rose’s rate stats for his career are still very solid. Despite having middling power (.409 slugging percentage), Charlie Hustle submitted a .303 batting average (buoyed by three batting titles in 1968, 1969 and 1973) and .375 on-base percentage. His skills of reaching base allowed him to post a 121 weighted runs created plus (wRC+), which is a stat adjusted for both era and ballpark measuring a hitter’s total offensive value. With 100 being considered league average, this meant Rose was 21% better than the league-average hitter across his tremendously long career.

Then, of course, there’s the trophy case. Rose won NL Rookie of the Year in 1963, and then claimed NL MVP ten years later after slashing .338/.401/.437 with 8.3 bWAR and claiming his third batting title. He was given two Gold Gloves for his defense in 1969 and 1970, even if defensive metrics aren’t very kind to his fielding as a whole. Finally, as a key component to the Cincinnati Reds’ “Big Red Machine” and the Philadelphia Phillies’ first-ever championship team, Rose wore three World Series rings and was even named MVP in the 1975 Fall Classic.

However, all of that was wiped out by his gambling scandal until he gets that posthumous second chance a bit over a year from now. Even then, there’s no guarantee he gets voted in by the Veterans Committee. On top of the gambling scandal, Rose was accused of being in a sexual relationship with a minor during his playing career – a relationship he even acknowledged – which absolutely hurts his case when the character clause is used as criteria.

Yet the gambling scandal alone could leave too much of a stigma on voters. Ever since the fallout of the Black Sox Scandal – which resulted in the banishment of the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson – betting on baseball games when actively involved in the league is viewed as a cardinal sin. And after years of denying he did so, Rose finally admitted he bet on baseball in 2004, including in games involving his own team (although he never bet against them).

It’s also worth mentioning that while Rose’s accomplishments are worthy of Hall of Fame enshrinement, he wouldn’t be considered an inner-circle Hall of Famer that many would be led to believe. His 80.1 fWAR, while absolutely Hall of Fame-caliber, falls far short of numerous other players regardless if they’re in or not, which is exacerbated by how long he played.

For instance, Babe Ruth played 2,503 games – over 1,000 less than Rose – yet has more than double the amount of fWAR at 167.0 (being the all-time leader in that category). Ty Cobb, who Rose surpassed in career hits, was worth 149.1 fWAR in over 500 fewer games thanks to amassing far superior rate stats than Rose over his career. Even Shoeless Joe Jackson – who, like Rose, was banned from baseball for ties to gambling – put up 60.2 fWAR in just 1,332 games, over 2,000 fewer games than Charlie Hustle.

This should be irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, as selecting someone into the Hall of Fame is a simple yes-or-no answer, and for Rose, the answer should be yes. But baseball voters rarely think that way and instead use a ton of other criteria to justify holding someone out. So if Barry Bonds and his 164.4 fWAR (second only to the Bambino) is kept out for his use of PEDs – which ran rampant among the league in his later career – then nothing will stop the voters from keeping Rose out for committing baseball’s ultimate sin while also not being a top-20 all-time player statistically.

All of these arguments can be traced back to this day 37 years ago, when Rose chose to accept a permanent ban instead of having MLB launch a full investigation into his gambling. Rose quickly came to regret this decision and applied for reinstatement several times over the years, but to no avail.

With Rose’s death in 2024 and Manfred’s posthumous reinstatement a few months later, it is up to the Veterans Committee in December 2027 to decide whether the baseball legend has served his punishment long enough.

But regardless of whether he gets enshrined into Cooperstown or not, one thing is certain: the complete story of the great game of baseball cannot be told without Pete Rose.

Out October 14, the new show promises to “close out” a trilogy of TV series on the streamer—at least according to Kevin Feige—following both WandaVision and Agatha All Along. 

WandaVision centered on Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) imprisoning the residents of a town and forcing them to play along with her sitcom-inspired faux reality after Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War. The show introduced Wanda and Vision’s children—Tommy and Billy, who were created with magic—and witch Agatha Harkness. Agatha then got her own series, in which Billy returned and took on the mantle of Wiccan. 

So, what is VisionQuest about? Here’s what Disney+ has released as the official plot:

“Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.”

Below are all the cast members confirmed by Marvel—and which MCU characters they’re playing.

Paul Bettany as Vision

Bettany originally voiced Iron Man’s AI system, J.A.R.V.I.S., before Ultron made him into a synthezoid with the help of the Mind Stone. He joined the Avengers, fell in love with Wanda, and was killed by Thanos, taking the stone for the Infinity Gauntlet. 

In WandaVision, Wanda created an alternate version of him, dubbed “Hex Vision,” from her memories via magic. At the same time, S.W.O.R.D. took his real body, reprogramming him into an emotionless, memoryless all-white being set out to kill Wanda and “Hex Vision.” That show ended with Hex Vision restoring White Vision’s memories, before the latter was last seen flying out of town. Hex Vision, meanwhile, disappeared when the hex was removed from Westview. 

VisionQuest, in theory, will follow what happens to White Vision next, with Bettany saying he’s been living “a sort of discrete life in a Scottish pub,” hoping to learn more about humanity.  

James Spader as Ultron

Ultron was also an AI originally created by Tony Stark, one that became corporeal thanks to the Mind Stone. He only appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was killed by his own creation, Vision, during the Battle of Sokovia. 

Spader voiced the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, though, in VisionQuest, he’ll look like a human. Per Bettany, when Vision goes into rest mode each night, he enters the “Mind Space,” which is “populated by different AIs that have different personalities that can help him sort of unload the data of the day, what he’s learned about human beings,” one of them being Ultron. 

“We have a sort of father-son, therapist-psychopath relationship,” teased Bettany. 

Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy

Agatha All Along ended with Billy and a ghostly version of Agatha setting out to find Billy’s twin brother, Tommy, also known as the superhero Speed. Mollica, meanwhile, has been cast as Thomas Shepard, with Disney+ calling him “a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate.”

While Vision, in the trailer, says his family with Wanda “wasn’t real,” Tommy is heard saying, “I had a father, a machine, called Vision.” Ultron then urges, “Free us all and save your son”—but could that all be a ruse to free Ulton from the “Mind Space”? We’ll see. 

Todd Stashwick as Paladin

While neither Stashwick nor Marvel have said much about his role in the series, the actor has been cast as Paladin.

In the comics, the character is bounty hunter and mercenary who has crossed paths with Daredevil, Wasp, Spider-Man, and the Hellfire Club on numerous occasions. 

T’Nia Miller as Jocasta

Showrunner Terry Matalas said T’Nia Miller’s Jacosta will “will be one of the standout characters of the MCU,” after her introduction on VisionQuest.

Though much isn’t known about the version we’ll get on screen, Jacosta was created by Ultron to be his bride. After realizing how truly evil he was, Jacosta helped the Avengers take Ultron down.

Lauren Morais as Lisa Molinari

Also known as Coat of Arms, Lisa Molinari—in the comics, at least—is someone who first met Thomas while in juvenile detention. She dons a coat that gives her two sets of arms during fights.

Coat of Arms went on to create her own version of the Young Avengers, called Young Masters, which went on to work under the villainous Masters of Evil.  

Diane Morgan as ???

So far, no character name has been revealed for Morgan—though Deadline, when reporting on her casting, said she will be playing an associate of Paladin’s. 

Polly Frame as ???

While Frame is on the official cast list, no information about who she’s playing has been released. 

Additional Actors as AI

As Bettany mentioned, the show will be littered with various AIs created by Tony Stark who help him understand humanity. 

Among them are Agent Carter’s James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, and Schitt’s Creek alum Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H.

Some players only experience the league through training camp and the preseason, achieving a small portion of their dreams after playing college football.

New eligibility rules and classifications from NCAA could change how some players approach their careers, as players may choose to step back into the college game after spending time on NFL rosters during the preseason.

In June, the NCAA changed its eligibility rules to allow athletes to play five seasons within a five-year timespan. This ruling did not include players from the 2022 class, who believe they are owed an extra year of eligibility.

Players Benefit From Recent Rule Change

More than 30 athletes – including 16 football players – were granted a temporary restraining order that will allow them one additional year of eligibility, in accordance with the new rule.

One of those players, former Ole Miss tight end Dae’Quan Wright, has entered the transfer portal and reportedly has an agreement in place to join LSU, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Wright is said to be the first player in history to reach an agreement to return to college football after joining the NFL as an undrafted free agent. He initially signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2026 NFL Draft before joining the Cleveland Browns.

Wright didn’t play in the Browns’ first two preseason games due to injury, but he dressed and warmed up with the team last week before their game against the Buffalo Bills.

The tight end’s decision could open the door for more players who fit the criteria to consider returning to college.

A top college player in the transfer portal will almost certainly make more money than a player on an NFL practice squad, and players who return to college could even have a second chance at entering the NFL Draft.

Other players who were granted another year of eligibility after appearing on NFL training camp roster include Seattle Seahawks running back Anthony Hankerson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Jack Pyburn and Arizona Cardinals safety Wydett Williams.

College Football Continues To Change

Several college head coaches and prominent football figures have reacted to the potential for pros to return to the college game, including Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning.

“If you invited somebody back to your team, that means you’re kicking somebody else off your team to match your roster limits,” Lanning said on Saturday.

“I don’t think that’s fair to the players that worked all summer, all spring and put themselves in position to be ready to work for a team to have somebody come back.”

Former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III called NFL players returning to college “gross negligence” and “a disservice to the current college players on any roster.”

If Wright is allowed to transfer and play for LSU this season, he could make his debut with the team on Saturday, September 5 when the Tigers welcome ACC standouts Clemson to Baton Rouge. Wright would be returning to his former college head coach in Lane Kiffin, who is set to make his debut with LSU this year.

The Adidas Azteca match ball was long held by Ali Bin Nasser, the referee who famously missed Maradona’s handball on the controversial goal.

Bin Nasser eventually put the ball up for auction in 2022, when it sold for $2.37 million. Just a year later, the new owner tried to auction it once again but failed to receive an offer matching the price they originally paid.

After holding onto the ball for another three years, the owner put it back on the auction block with experts reportedly believing it could sell for as much as $10 million. While $3.35 million is certainly no small amount, the final price fell well short of that valuation.

But what makes a soccer ball worth millions of dollars? It all goes back to one of the most unforgettable games in World Cup history.

The Story Behind Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ Goal

Argentina and England faced off in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Two of the most storied and well-known soccer nations in the world were battling for a spot in the semifinals and moving one step closer to a World Cup title.

The game remained scoreless early in the second half when Maradona, already one of the best players in the world at the time, delivered one of the most infamous moments in soccer history.

On a loose ball headed toward the goal, England goalkeeper Peter Shilton came out to grab it in the air. Somehow, the 5-foot-5 Maradona beat him to the ball and knocked it into the net.

The goal gave Argentina a 1-0 lead, but the English players immediately protested.

A replay showed exactly why they were so angry. Maradona never headed the ball. Instead, he used his left hand to punch it past Shilton and into the net without the referee seeing it.

With no VAR to overturn the call back in 1986, the goal stood. Maradona would famously describe it afterward as being scored partly by “the hand of God,” giving birth to the name that has followed the goal ever since.

However, the legend of that ball didn’t stop there.

Just four minutes later, Maradona picked it up inside Argentina’s own half and took off. In just 11 touches and roughly 11 seconds, Maradona went all the way down the field, weaving through England’s defense before scoring again.

The moment was so spectacular that it would later be dubbed the “Goal of the Century.”

One of the most infamous goals in soccer history and one of the greatest ever scored came just minutes apart, off the foot and hand of the same player using the same ball.

Argentina would go on to win the game 2-1 before eventually defeating West Germany in the final to capture its second World Cup title in eight years.

It’s hard to imagine many pieces of sports memorabilia with a story quite like that.

Among them was Robert Mitchum, who starred in a number of popular Westerns like Pursued, The Way West and Man With the Gun. Arguably his best Western, though, and one of the greatest of all time, nearly went to a different lead actor.

The Lusty Men was initially set to be directed by Robert Parrish in a film featuring Western star George Montgomery. Instead, Parrish left the film and while icons like John Huston and Michael Mann were considered to take over filming, Nicholas Ray eventually took over as director.

Mitchum then landed the lead role and delivered on one of his best movies.

In a July poll from Letterboxd, users ranked The Lusty Men as the No. 32 greatest Western of all time.

Meanwhile, ScreenRant ranked The Lusty Men as the second-best Western of Mitchum’s career, losing out only to John Wayne’s El Dorado.

The Lusty Men owns a perfect 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes while audiences gave it a strong 81% on the ratings platform.
