Where: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
When: August 10
“In 2019, beer festivals—the good ones at least—need to be about more than just 4-ounce pours in plastic cups,” says John A. Paradiso, managing editor of Hop Culture (which throws its own outside-the-box beer events). “With an audience of hundreds, even thousands, of passionate attendees, festival owners have the opportunity to highlight community and craftsmanship. Few do that better than Black Brew Culture and Drinking Partners, the organizers of Pittsburgh’s Fresh Fest.”
It’s the country’s first festival specifically bringing together black brewers. It debuted last year and made serious waves. The event forced craft beer professionals and fans to face the lack of diversity in the industry, highlighting the many amazing brews made by people of color.
“It’s an important and powerful event that also happens to be a really fun time: incredible beer, delicious food, great music, and a diverse audience,” Paradiso notes.
