The White Diamond (2004)
The risk and exultation of aviation drew Werner Herzog, also number two on this list, to the tale of Graham Dorrington, a London engineer who built a teardrop-shaped dirigible to fly over the rain forests of Guyana. A 1993 accident in Sumatra that killed his friend Dieter Plage made Dorrington nervous about taking Herzog onboard, but the filmmaker insisted. As the ship glided over Kaieteur Falls and dipped dangerously low behind rushing water, Herzog decided the scene was too sacred to show viewers. The resulting film still leaves your heart in your mouth, bringing you close to an adventure most could only dream of.
