Hudson Valley (NY)
The Roads: Just 90 minutes outside of Manhattan, these 80 miles of road include scenic vistas of the Hudson River and no shortage of wineries, quaint villages, and outstanding restaurants. The Valley spans from Yonkers (south) to Albany (north), with Interstate 87 on the east and Highway 9 to the west.
Stay: There's no shortage of inns and hotels along the Hudson, but the 259-room Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz stands out with its grand scale and varied accommodations highlighted by a spa, hiking trails, and incredible views.
Inside Tip: Don't miss the Hawk's Nest, a particularly picturesque stretch of road four miles from Port Jervis that leads to the oldest suspension bridge in the United States.
