Mackinac Island (MI)
The Roads: Take Michigan M-119 (or, the Tunnel of Trees road) through a thickly wooded canopy all the way to Harbor Springs. When you loop back to Mackinaw City on Lake Huron, leave your bike at the docks and take the ferry to Mackinac Island to unwind in the quaintness of this 3.8-square-mile corner of the world.
Stay: Mackinac boasts only family-owned resorts, inns, and B&Bs, so it’s hard not to feel at home in this tiny town.
Inside Tip: Leave your sportbike at home; the pace in Northern Michigan is decidedly slow.
