30 Lakes in 30 Days | Lake Dillon | Colorado
In the heart of Summit County, Colorado, lies Lake Dillon (aka Dillon Reservoir), which, in addition to being Denver’s primary water supply, is a superb paddling destination. Surrounded by tall mountain peaks, showcasing some of the Colorado’s greatest scenery and hiking trails, visitors of Lake Dillon find plenty of adventure both on and off the water. The marina gives you access to launch your boat or SUP, and the 25 miles of shoreline provide more than enough elbow room for exploration. Just make sure to bring a lifejacket for the groms; it’s the law!
Lake Dillon is nestled in the Rocky Mountains near the town of Dillon, where visitors can find world-class sailing outfitters, shopping and lodging. During the warm seasons, the town is alive with concerts and events, which make for awesome post-paddle summer socializing. Unlike some of the lakes profiled in this series, you won’t find seclusion or primitive living at Dillon Lake, but you will find equal opportunity for fun—the community here provides an idyllic summertime lake experience with vacationers, campers and friendly locals.
