30 Lakes in 30 Days | Lake Guntersville | Alabama
Guntersville Reservoir in northern Alabama offers 69,000 sprawling acres of southern hospitality for the flatwater paddling enthusiast. The lake sits in Alabama State Park, and is considered by many to be one of the crown jewels of the state park system. Standup paddling is becoming increasingly popular in the area, making outfitters are easy to find. But beyond the bountiful paddling opportunities found on the water, the area also boasts an 18-hole golf course, a fishing marina, countless hiking and biking trails, and an array of wildlife that take refuge in the pristine territory. Among the lake’s main attractions is it’s growing population of bald eagles, which is booming thanks to conservation efforts put forth by local Eagle Awareness programs. The area is also home to a massive resort, and offers lodges and tent camping alternatives for the rugged or budget paddler.
