Make Your Own Salsa
August’s other unofficial crop — besides tomatoes and corn — are hot peppers. For mild, try banana peppers or Anaheim. For hot, use five finely chopped jalapenos or the hotter serranos, plus two red bell peppers and two poblanos, five large tomatoes, one large red onion, one clove garlic, a handful of cilantro, juice of one lime, a dash of salt & pepper. Roast the peppers and tomatoes until they’re singed, then toss everything into a food processor and pulse. You can store it your refrigerator for about five days.
