Watch Lightning Storms in New Mexico
Bordering the town of Quemado sits a plain with 400 stainless steel rods set up to attract lightning. Created by artist Walter De Maria in the ’70s as a “living sculpture,” the field has been called a “holistic engagement between human scale and the landscape and the sky.” In other words, when a storm rolls in, hold onto your hat. The site is maintained by the DIA Art Foundation and reservations go quick.
