Huairasinchi: Hike, Mountain Bike, Kayak, Climb, Orienteer
This team competition in Ecuador involves orienteering, trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, and climbing and is divided into two distances; elite, which is approximately 250 miles, and adventure, which is approximately 100 miles. The name of the competition Huairasinchi means “strength of the wind” in English and is derived from the native Kichwa language. Race organizers give back to local communities throughout the year by helping them build boats, improve soccer fields, and donating school materials. In return locals welcome Huairasinchi competitors racing through their lands. After six days of competition the teams are transported back to Quito.
