The 1,184-foot-tall Mount Yasur volcano, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, is located on the southern tip of Tanna Island in Vanuatu. Mount Yasur is most active between February and April, during the wet season, when the high groundwater level allows water to come into contact with hot rocks around the magma chambers. Visitors can hike through the Ash Plane to witness the geological features of this conical volcano, which includes walking to the edge of a lava-spitting, 1,312-foot-wide crater.
Experience it: Springboard Vacations transports guests up the volcano via four-wheel drive through Mount Yasur’s rugged terrain.
