6. How to protect your dog from lava-hot asphalt
Why it’s dangerous: Hot surfaces like concrete or asphalt can actually burn the pads of your dog’s paws. Asphalt can reach 140° on an 87° day, which is hot enough to cause burns, permanent damage, and scarring after just one minute of contact, according to PETA. You might also want to protect their paws against glass and hot sand.
Solution: You can buy shoes for your dog, but if they won’t wear them, you’ll be blowing your money and their paws could still burn. Another alternative: Treat their paws before a walk with a product like Musher’s Mush, which is used on sled dogs, Kim suggests.
