A Day in the Life at the World’s Hardest Sailing Race

Sailing nearly 39,000 nautical miles in 39 weeks requires incredible strength and endurance — and the ability to tap it at all hours of the day. The grueling Volvo Ocean Race set sail last week from Spain, taking crews of eight around the globe in what is the most challenging sailing race in the world.

And as this video, Just Another Day at the Office, from the Ocean Race illustrates, it's not just about skill, speed, and stamina, but the ability to live — eating, sleeping, showering — through storms and winds that can send the 65-foot boats as fast as 50 miles an hour.
