For the NCAA, keep an eye on teams with do-it-all players.
Alagappan’s NBA model simply doesn’t work when it comes to the amateur game. “College ball is a drastically different sport,” says Alagappan. “The way you build a team is different, the turnover is very high, and you have to recruit players that play within your style.” Plus, you have to factor in the true do-it-all players. “Unlike the NBA, there are guys who lead the team in everything in college,” he says. “It’s not because they’re good at everything, but because the competition isn’t that good. Players can lead their team in about four or five different things that they aren’t really good at, but are better at than their competition.”
