Take a meaty hike in Argentina.
Too often a fantastic hike is followed by a poor man’s meal, like a burrito or even (God help you) a PowerBar, but down in Patagonia, at Los Glaciares National Park, one of the planet’s most breathtaking trails can be capped off with one of its best steaks. The two-and-a-half-hour hike passes a 300-foot waterfall, drops down along the chattering Torre River, then crosses a glacial valley to Laguna Torre, an impossibly clear pool that reflects the snowy peaks looming above it. In austral spring and summer you can start your return hike as late as 7 pm and still make it back to the Ruca Mahuida restaurant in time for a dinner of filet mignon in blueberry reduction sauce with a bottle of malbec – the perfect coupling of savory and sweet.
