Chattahoochee National Forest, Georgia
Ride Some Serious Southern Whitewater
The 57-mile Chattooga River is a southern whitewater mecca, with class II to V rapids. The 1972 film Deliverance was filmed on the free-flowing river, and the stretch that runs through the Chattahoochee National Forest, in northern Georgia, remains a particularly prime piece of water, carving through steep cliffs and gorges. Start at section 3, near Clayton, to get acquainted with the river.
