Methow Wildlife Area, Washington
Ski Methow Valley’s Cross-Country Trail
It’s easy to overlook the Methow Wildlife Area, given that it sits just outside North Cascades National Park. But the 31,000-acre protected tract is a nordic-ski paradise worthy of a visit. The 18-mile Methow Community Trail connects the towns of Winthrop and Mazama, cuts through the Rendezvous Unit, and composes part of the valley’s 120-mile network of groomed ski routes, the largest in the country. You can access the trail and park for free at trailheads either near Mazama or in Winthrop.
